UTM Wins the 2026 Interuniversity Spartakiad

UTM students returned from the Interuniversity Spartakiad with five trophies and first place overall. Held on May 9, 2026, the competition set out to promote university sports and bring students together through friendly competition.

The event gathered teams from four higher education institutions in Chișinău: “Ion Creangă” State Pedagogical University, the Technical University of Moldova, Moldova State University and the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova.

Around 40 UTM students took part in the competition, representing the university in both individual and team events, including chess, checkers, table tennis, mini-football, volleyball, darts and tug of war. Each event tested a different mix of skills, from strategy and focus to coordination, endurance and teamwork.

By the end of the competition, UTM had won five trophies, each one reflecting the students’ effort, discipline and team spirit.

The university team won first place in:

  • Checkers
  • Mini-football
  • Volleyball
  • Tug of war
  • Overall team ranking, awarded to the university with the highest total score across all events

“I felt proud to see our university at the top of the ranking, especially since most of us who represented UTM at this event know each other. I was also surprised by how easy it is to connect with other young people who share the same interests. Events like this always leave you with a sense of nostalgia and create close friendships that can last for years,”

The final ranking gave UTM every reason to celebrate. The Technical University of Moldova took first place at the 2026 Interuniversity Spartakiad of Dormitory Residents, followed by the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova in second place and “Ion Creangă” State Pedagogical University in third.

Congratulations to all participants. We wish them continued success in future competitions and throughout their academic journey.

The Technical University of Moldova encourages students to get involved in academic, sports and cultural activities, supporting a balanced university experience both inside and beyond the classroom.
