The Long-term Partnership between UTM and Orange Moldova: A Model of Success in Education and Technology

The Technical University of Moldova and the renowned mobile phone company Orange Moldova have developed a strong partnership over the years, providing essential support for the development of the scientific and educational process and the modernization of study programs. During a recent meeting with the CEO of Orange Moldova, Olga SURUGIU, UTM’s Vice-Rector for Digitalization, Dinu ȚURCANU, emphasized that this collaboration represents a model of sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership between the academic sector and the private sector in the Republic of Moldova.

In a rapidly changing world where technology and innovation are part of everyday life, universities play a crucial role in preparing young people for the job market. The Technical University of Moldova demonstrates its ongoing commitment to adapting to new requirements and providing quality education, and Orange Moldova has always been there, being one of the first private partners to establish a long-term partnership with a higher education institution. The company has provided essential support for the development of scientific and educational potential and the modernization of the study process at UTM. And the results speak for themselves: 40 percent of Orange employees are UTM graduates!

An essential element of this collaboration is the ongoing modernization of curricula in the fields of technology and telecommunications. The Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications at UTM, under the leadership of the Dean, Associate Professor, Dr. Lilia SAVA, has played a significant role in this evolution, laying the foundation for new innovative initiatives that have had a significant impact on students and the academic environment as a whole.

Orange Moldova’s General Director, Olga SURUGIU, with over 17 years of experience in the B2C and B2B sectors, has brought a unique perspective and a high level of expertise to this collaboration. She has been an inspirational leader for complex projects, including the creation of Orange Systems, Orange {kITchen} – an innovative workspace concept, the Orange Systems Academy for professional retraining in IT, and the Orange Digital Center concept. These projects have made a significant contribution to the development of the IT sector in Moldova.

Over the years, Orange Moldova has provided essential support to UTM, offering young people numerous educational and professional opportunities. These have included didactic-scientific laboratories, the Orange Wi-Fi Cafe, the Solidarity FabLab, scholarships for talented students, hackathon competitions, IoT technology competitions, and career orientation fairs.

UTM’s Vice-Rector, Dinu ȚURCANU, emphasized that Orange Moldova is not just a partner, but also a mentor, playing a vital role in the academic and professional development of the youth in Moldova. The collaboration between UTM and Orange Moldova serves as a real-life example of how universities and companies can join forces to shape a more promising and innovative future for young individuals and society at large. This new era of sustainable partnerships holds the potential to introduce even more innovations and opportunities for young people who are eager to pursue knowledge and success.
