UTM, founding member of SEEAM-Network

The Technical University of Moldova, together with the University of Banja Luka (Bosnia-Herzegovina) and the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences Gelsenkirchen in Germany, responded to the initiative of the “Eftimie Murgu” University of Reșița to create an academic network in the interdisciplinary engineering field of the additive technologies, under the name of SEEAM-Network (South Eastern European Academic Network for Additive Manufacturing, http://seeam-network.com/wp/).

The members of the four universities, UTM being represented by Iurie NUCĂ, head of the Department of Electrical Engineering within the Faculty of Energetics and Electrical Engineering, met at the “Eftimie Murgu” University in Reșița, in an attempt to expand their international experience, but also to give them a better visibility in the European space.

“It is a trend in the European education – to form and to reach after international consortia. This path includes, first and foremost, the shaping, at an early stage, of networks of universities that unite through common interests and concerns that they share in educational and research activities. This network that emphasizes the development of additive technologies has brought us together”, said the vice-rector of the University “Eftimie Murgu”, Cristian CHIONCEL.

“Among the main objectives of this platform, financially supported by the Ministry of National Education, through the Institutional Development fund, is the increase of international visibility in the European area of education and research, by setting up these transnational university networks for education and research in the technical field of additive technologies”, said dr. Relu CIUBOTARIU, the project manager.

Another objective is to stimulate the international mobility of students, master’s and doctoral students, as well as teachers, by participating in educational and research activities, carried out in mixed or multinational teams. Increasing the capacity for research, development and innovation through these mixed teams is another objective of the project, as well as ensuring access to international experience.

Through this network, the affiliated universities aim for long-term assurance of international experiences for teachers and students, through short-term teaching and learning mobility (maximum one week), done at the partner institutions, as well as the increase of the efficiency in the scientific research activity, by sharing the material resources and the professional experience of the teaching staff and the researchers. In order to carry out these activities in the future, the universities gathered in the SEEAM-Network will apply for European funding, provided through the programs DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) and ERASMUS+, as well as through research programs.

The network is open to both universities and interested public and private entities.
