UTM has demonstrated remarkable performance in four Sustainable Development Goals, reflecting the university’s commitment to quality education and sustainable development:
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being

The evaluation for this goal is based on the universities’ research on major diseases and conditions, support for health professions, and the overall health of the academic community.
Goal 5: Gender Equality
The university showed dedication to promoting gender equality through institutional policies and supporting research in this vital field. This goal measures universities’ efforts regarding gender equality studies, equality policies, and commitment to the recruitment and promotion of women.
Goal 4: Quality Education

Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals

UTM demonstrated a strong commitment to international collaboration and strategic partnerships to achieve global sustainable development goals. This goal examines how universities support the SDGs through cooperation with other countries, promoting best practices, and publishing relevant data.
A key figure in these noteworthy accomplishments is the rector of the Technical University of Moldova, Prof. Dr. habil. Viorel Bostan. Through unconditional support and efforts, the rector has managed to drive the institution’s advancement, attract resources, and implement innovative strategies that have led to UTM’s growing reputation on the international stage. Under his leadership, UTM has climbed global rankings and become a model of academic excellence and devotion to sustainable development.
Compared to 2023, the Technical University of Moldova has continued to consolidate its position in the global Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, remaining the only higher education institution in the Republic of Moldova included in this prestigious international evaluation. In both editions of the ranking, UTM has been recognized for its commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, with some notable differences between the university’s achievements in 2023 and 2024.
In 2023, UTM achieved an impressive position among 1,799 universities worldwide, showing outstanding results in four essential goals: Gender Equality (Goal 5), Good Health and Well-being (Goal 3), Partnerships for the Goals (Goal 17), and Quality Education (Goal 4).
In 2024, UTM continued to perform remarkably in these areas, even as the number of participating universities increased significantly, reaching 1,906, indicating increased competitiveness and the university’s growing relevance in the global context. Another important aspect to mention is UTM’s ongoing and effective involvement in research and international partnerships. In 2024, the university placed even greater emphasis on strategic collaborations to achieve global sustainable development goals, as reflected in Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
In conclusion, from 2023 to 2024, the Technical University of Moldova has consolidated its position in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, demonstrating continuous allegiance to educational excellence and sustainable progress. This consistency and positive evolution underscore UTM’s vital role in promoting the UN’s goals and setting a standard of excellence for other higher education institutions in the region.
