From May 8 to 10, 2026, the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest hosted the 36th edition of AGRONOMIADA, one of the most established academic, professional and sports competitions for agricultural universities in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
Organized in partnership with Sector 1 City Hall and supported by Romania’s Ministry of Education and Research, the event brought together more than 600 students and teaching staff. Over three days, the Agronomie-Herăstrău and Veterinary Medicine-Cotroceni campuses became a space for competition, collaboration and exchange, with participants testing their knowledge and skills in 23 professional contests and 7 sports events.
This year’s edition welcomed delegations from six institutions: USAMV Bucharest, “Ion Ionescu de la Brad” University of Life Sciences in Iași, USAMV Cluj-Napoca, “King Michael I” University of Life Sciences in Timișoara, the Faculties of Agriculture and Horticulture of the University of Craiova, and the Technical University of Moldova in Chișinău.
AGRONOMIADA offered future specialists the chance to compete in fields ranging from agriculture, horticulture and veterinary medicine to biotechnology, environmental engineering, food engineering, animal husbandry and rural development. The professional contests covered a wide range of disciplines, including soil science, crop production, entomology, landscape design, animal reproduction, cattle breeding technology, veterinary obstetrics, microbiology, genetic engineering, project management, and food product control and expertise.
UTM has been part of this competition since 2004, but its presence has grown significantly following the merger with the former Agrarian University. UTM Rector Prof. Viorel Bostan highlighted the importance of this academic connection, saying that “every time we cross the Prut, we return home and feel at home.” He also described agricultural sciences and veterinary medicine as “a true ray of light for the university.”
The competition remains a strong symbol of academic cooperation across the Romanian-speaking space. Its 2026 edition carried forward a tradition built over 36 years, while the 2025 edition marked a historic moment, as the Republic of Moldova hosted AGRONOMIADA for the first time in more than three decades, also celebrating over 90 years of higher agricultural education in the country.
UTM students delivered strong results in Bucharest, standing out both academically and in sports. In the sports competitions, they won first place in table tennis, men’s tennis and volleyball, and secured second place in men’s basketball, cheerleading and mixed tennis.
In the professional and scientific contests, UTM won first place in Landscape Design. Students also earned second place in Veterinary Obstetrics and Human Resource Management in Public Catering and Agritourism, third place in Entomology, and a mention in Soil Science. Special awards were also granted for performances in Cattle Breeding Technology, Animal Reproduction, and Food Product Control and Expertise.
These results confirm UTM’s growing role in agronomic education and underline the importance of cross-border academic cooperation. Through their performance at AGRONOMIADA 2026, students from UTM showed that passion for science, solid training and team spirit can lead to results at the highest level.
Congratulations to the students and professors who represented the Technical University of Moldova with distinction at this anniversary edition of AGRONOMIADA.
