On March 25, 2021, the faculties of Economic Engineering and Business (FIEB) and Food Technology (FTA), organized a round table dedicated to the issue of food fraud.
The starting point of the discussion was the need to create an ecosystem that would include stakeholders from various fields – businesses, government agencies and educational institutions, to initiate discussions, collaborations, partnerships and identify effective solutions to eliminate food crime in society.
The speakers of the round table were:
- TUM teachers: Associate Professor, Dr. Ala OBERȘT, Department of Economics and Management, and Associate Professor, Dr. Artur MACARI, Head of the Food Technology Department;
- the representative of the food chain operator: Andrei IOVU, Quality Manager, LACTALIS ALBA SRL company;
- representatives of state authorities: Emilia GNATIUC, External Chief Evaluator at the National Accreditation Center of the Republic of Moldova (MOLDAC), and Ana LAUR, Chief Inspector at the Directorate for Safety and Quality of Non-Animal Food Products, National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) .
The event was attended by an exceptional number of about 150 people, 32 of whom are teachers in the Departments of Food Technology (FTA), and the Departments of Economics and Management and Economic Theory and Marketing (FIEB). Representatives of the business environment and students participated as well, which substantiates the increased interest in the elucidated topic.
The presentations approached various aspects of the examined problem: the essence and forms of food fraud; its impact on food quality; food fraud risk assessment methodology; involvement of the authorities in reducing food fraud; analysis of the case study on the most resounding cases of food fraud in the Republic of Moldova, and other relevant topics included in the program.
Certainly, the cooperation between the two faculties will result in the materialization of multiple events of this kind, which proves to incite the interest of teachers and experts in the field – a very important and welcomed aspect in the training of future specialists at the Technical University of Moldova.
