The students of the Faculty of Economic Engineering and Business within TUM had the opportunity to watch the online presentation of the American Professor, Dr. Valerie MOCK – “Management: an art or a science?”, perfectly relevant to the course “General Management”, taught at FIEB.
The training of good managers and economists involves the development of professional and complementary skills, which are highly demanded in the process of employment. In this regard, at FIEB, an extracurricular Data Science course was initiated, aiming to contribute to the development of digital skills, indispensable in the conditions of digitalization of the economy, a process accelerated by the pandemic. At the same time, capitalizing on foreign market opportunities requires a good knowledge of English – to establish collaborative relationships and strengthen partnerships with foreign economic agents. Thus, for 2020-2021, the course General Management was taught in English (by Associate Professor, Dr. Rafael CILOCI, Dean of FIEB), a change that contributes to the development of both professional skills and Business English. About 20 students responded to this initiative – an indication for implementing teaching in English for other courses within FIEB.
The presentation, held from thousands of miles away, in Atlanta (Georgia, USA), was suggestively entitled: “Management: an art or a science?”. Dr. Valerie MOCK, a good friend of TUM, has previously benefited from a Fulbright scholarship in Moldova, during which he taught the Marketing course for Master students at FIEB.
Doctor of Economics (with a PhD in Management from the University of Georgia), Professor of Business History, with extensive international academic experience in teaching courses and conducting consulting workshops in 17 countries, author of 25 books and co-author of over 275 travel blogs, who personally visited about 110 countries, Dr. Valerie MOCK is also a skilled manager. His activity as Head of department, Dean, and other various management positions exercised during 15 years as part of the company IBM, including his activity as a member of the departments Business History and International Affairs of the Academy of Management, constitutes an exceptional experience that must be capitalized on and disseminated among the young people in universities – future specialists.
Thank you for your contribution, Dr. Valerie MOCK.
