Structure and Governing Bodies of the Technical University of Moldova

The Technical University of Moldova (hereinafter referred to as UTM) is a structural unit within the higher education system of the Republic of Moldova, a nonprofit institution with financial autonomy, operating under the authority of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Moldova.

UTM functions on the basis of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, the Education Law No. 547-XIII of July 21, 1995, Government Decision No. 983 of December 22, 2012 “On the operation of state higher education institutions under conditions of financial autonomy,” international agreements and conventions concluded by the Republic of Moldova, as well as its own Statute and internal resolutions.

As an institution of higher education, the Technical University of Moldova has as its main objectives the training, professional development, and retraining of specialists and researchers in various fields, the promotion of scientific research, and the fulfillment of individual aspirations for advanced and expanded studies.

To achieve these goals, UTM carries out the following types of activities:

  • Initial and continuing training (Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate) of engineering personnel through higher education programs.
  • Preparation and professional development of scientific and teaching staff through doctoral and postdoctoral studies.
  • Organization and implementation of educational activities for students.
  • Conduct of research and innovation activities.

The structure of UTM includes faculties, departments, chairs, sections, and scientific research laboratories; design and production units; computing centers; centers for professional development and retraining; advanced technology implementation centers; the Scientific Library, the Scientific Publishing House, the Administrative and Economic Service, and other structural subdivisions.

The organizational structure of UTM is established and approved by the University Senate, in agreement with the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the Statute of UTM, the faculties are teaching, scientific, and administrative subdivisions of the university, responsible for organizing and conducting educational processes at the Bachelor’s (Cycle I), Master’s (Cycle II), and Doctoral (Cycle III) levels, as well as continuous training courses for engineering personnel. Faculties also carry out methodological, educational, research, innovation, and development activities in one or more fields/specialties/specializations.
The organizational structure of a faculty includes departments, educational and scientific laboratories, centers, and other subdivisions.

The departments are fundamental structural units of the University that operate in accordance with the provisions of the Statute, regulations, and UTM’s internal guidelines.

The Scientific Library of UTM is an informational and scientific unit within the University, designed to support the educational and research process with documentation and information resources.

The Administrative and Economic Service is a subdivision that manages the University’s assets for educational, research, and development purposes, as well as for related services (dormitories, cafeterias, sports halls, etc.).
