On 6 March, the Râșcani campus of the Technical University of Moldova burst into color as a fusion of cultures transformed the university parking area into a lively scene filled with music, movement and enthusiasm. The “Mărțișor meets Holi” festival brought together the freshness of spring and the red-and-white of the Mărțișor with the vibrant palette of Indian traditions, creating a dynamic celebration of friendship and diversity that reflects the character of UTM today. With its swirl of colors, aromatic snacks, dancing and artistic performances, the event encouraged intercultural exchange and strengthened the sense of community on a campus that is increasingly connected to the wider world.
The festival opened with an inspiring message from dr. Daniela Pojar, vice-rector for Finance and International Relations, who emphasized that UTM is not only a center of technical excellence but also a space built on inclusion and mutual respect. She highlighted the importance of cultural diversity and international cooperation as key elements in shaping an open, tolerant and forward-looking university environment where every student feels appreciated.
Adding a personal touch to this academic vision, doctoral student Rajat from the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics shared his experience. Originally from India, he expressed gratitude for the way the UTM community embraces and honors international traditions, offering foreign students a genuine sense of belonging. Preserving cultural heritage and sharing it with others, he noted, is one of the most meaningful ways to grow both personally and professionally, turning years of study in Chișinău into a memorable and enriching chapter.
The festival’s energy was fueled by a varied artistic program that began with a performance linking the legend of the Mărțișor to the spirit of Holi. Known worldwide as the Festival of Colors, Holi celebrates the triumph of good over evil, the joy of life and the value of being together. These themes blended naturally with the Moldovan spring atmosphere. Participants joined in traditional dances and lively performances that brought a touch of India to the heart of the campus, giving everyone a glimpse into a centuries-old cultural tradition.
Throughout the day, interaction was at the core of the event. Students took part in open dance sessions, enjoyed flavorful snacks and warm drinks, and explored the tastes and rhythms of Indian culture. The highlight came with the throwing of colored powders. At a unified signal, the air erupted into clouds of red, yellow, blue and pink, covering the crowd in a symbolic embrace of color. The laughter and applause that followed showed how joy and color can connect people regardless of where they come from.
As the celebration unfolded, students socialized, captured energetic moments and created memories that will last. The festival grew into an event that transcended cultural borders and became a shared symbol of friendship, diversity and optimism. The dancing, the food, the warm drinks and the easy conversations all helped strengthen the international community at UTM.
This memorable edition was made possible with the support of the Indo-Mold Business & Cultural Organization and Dyninno Group, who joined the initiative as sponsors. Their involvement underscores the way private partners and academic institutions can work together to support international student life and create valuable extracurricular experiences.
By hosting the “Mărțișor meets Holi” festival, the Technical University of Moldova reaffirms its role as a dynamic, globally minded institution that welcomes spring with an open heart, optimism and a truly international spirit.
