Christmas Eve is approaching, and the campus of the Technical University of Moldova has transformed into a realm of magic and innovation. At the Faculty of Design, the holidays are more than just a time for joy – they are an opportunity to unleash creativity. The “Most Innovative Christmas Tree” competition, initiated by ProDeco Iluminare in collaboration with the Industrial and Product Design Department of UTM, was the stage where students shone through unique ideas and eco-friendly approaches.
The motto of the competition, “A project with a creative core that you and your colleagues can create!”, deeply inspired the participants. Twenty-five talented students embraced the challenge of designing a unique polygonal Christmas tree, using sustainable materials and innovative lighting. Their creations, showcased in a stunning exhibition at Study Building No. 6, impressed everyone with their ingenuity and artistic vision.

Tudor Uncu, the director of ProDeco Iluminare and a UTM graduate, turned this competition into an opportunity to encourage young designers to combine art and technology in the spirit of the holidays.
After a thorough evaluation, the jury announced the winners:
- 1st place – the team “PerfoLights” (Olga Homițchi, Elena Istratenco, Daria Proscurina, Daria Haritonova) – prize of 400 euros;
- 2nd place – the team “EnLightning” (Victoria Braga, Marcel Gârneț) – prize of 200 euros;
- 3rd place – the team “Land of Holidays” (Ioan Zelinschi, Andreea Plugaru, Madlen Plugaru) – prize of 100 euros;
- 4th place – the team made up of 11 talented students – prize in the form of STARS COFFEE subscriptions.
The competition coordinator, Associate Professor Valeriu Podborschi, was deeply impressed by the students’ dedication, proudly stating: “Through hard work and innovative spirit, UTM students demonstrate that they can turn ideas into masterpieces.” Mr. Podborschi was more than just a guide for the participants – he was a true source of inspiration, as students admire him and consider him an invaluable mentor who encourages them to push beyond their limits and create magic, just as they did in this competition.
On December 18, the winning tree will be unveiled at a festive event in front of Study Building No. 6, kicking off the winter holidays at UTM. The Christmas centerpiece is already glowing with light, color, and sparkle – a vibrant testament to the students’ talent in turning the holiday season into an unforgettable experience.
At UTM, Christmas is all about innovation, inspiration, and brilliance!
