The UTM Faculty of Design met this year’s 188 freshmen with a new name and a comprehensive presentation on the fascinating careers of engineers, designers, artists, technologists and creators.
The advantages and prospects brought by the fields studied at the Faculty of Design (dean: Assoc. Prof., Dr. Sergiu Tronciu) were highlighted through the impressive results of the students who participated in the online international competitions organized by KNUTD-Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design: the winners of the “Печерські каштани-2022” contest, Maria Barbalat – winner of the 1st place for the work “The Sensual Woman” in the “Special” category; and Maria Munteanu – winner of the 1st place for the work “Family” in the “Embroidery” category. Concurrently, the students Daniela BARONCEA, Valentina FRUNZE and Daniela RAILEAN, who made it to the top of the leaderboard in the “Созвездие Каштан 2021” competition, were also handed their late-arriving trophies and diplomas, along with the generous applause of the professors and freshmen of the faculty.
The presentation was followed by a visit to the fascinating world of Fashion Industry at the ZIPHOUSE Center for Excellence and Acceleration in Design and Technologies within UTM, where the students of DVI-221 (Industrial Fashion Design) and TDCT-221 (Textile Design and Technology) met the ZIPHOUSE team, led by executive director Carolina TULGARA, and learned about the advantages and opportunities in Design, Technologies and Branding offered by this unique Fashion HUB in Moldova, which UTM students benefit from free of charge. The freshmen were delighted and motivated by the team’s friendly and welcoming attitude, the creative ambience, and the modern equipment of the Center, as well as the chance to chat with representatives of local and international design. The Center’s infrastructure, built on an area of 800 sq.m., designed in an eco-industrial style and equipped with media, IT and production hardware, allows for the use of the provided space for both co-working, educational, research, acceleration and mentoring activities, as well as for the organization of workshops, creative clubs, fashion trunk shows, photo shoots, and other related events. The students were especially interested in the high-performance library, which provides access to top resources in the field of Fashion and Design – www.WGSN.com, including magazines, books and trendy textiles. Additionally, the hub has a production line, used both for training purposes and to enable young designers to produce their own experimental designs and mini-collections.
The students who chose the new “Game Design” specialty enjoyed an unforgettable visit to the first digital-media production center in the Republic of Moldova – Mediacor. The freshmen were greeted by Vasili BRAGA, director of COR Creative Industries Association in Moldova, game developer with over 15 years of academic and software development experience, and Alexandr LUCHICEV, representative of Epic Games: Unreal Engine Academic Relations CIS, who carried out an introductory lecture on the field of Web Design and Development and the new specialty within FD-UTM – “Game Design”. Mediacor was built on an area of 3,000 sq.m. and owns impressive spaces for video, audio and animation pre-production and post-production, made available to media and creative industries and new media enthusiasts.
The visits turned out to be enjoyable for the hosts as well, having had the opportunity to meet young people willing to study the industry’s creative fields here, in our country, at home. We wish you all the best!
