The exhibition “Creation opens the Universe” & “European Researchers’ Night” at TUM

On September 24, the Technical University of Moldova hosted the grandest event of the year, which brought together two large-scale events traditionally held at TUM: the exhibition “Creation opens the Universe”, at its 10th edition, and “European Researchers’ Night”, at its 8th edition. The event included 15 workshops, interactive activities, masterclasses, public lectures, a fashion show, as well as exciting tours around the TUM spaces.

The exhibition “Creation opens the Universe” included over 100 works on the most original ideas and innovations discovered within the Bachelor, Master and Doctoral projects of TUM students. The visitors had the opportunity to find out more about the interesting life of a student and the benefits of research activity.

Proud of the achievements of the TUM representatives, the rector, prof., Dr. Viorel BOSTAN, mentioned in his inaugural message:

– We have always been honored that we are engineers and have something to show to the world, and this is what distinguishes the field of engineering from other specialties – engineers create, prototype and model not only in theory, but also in practice, by building things necessary for human activity and the development of various other fields, always counting on the final result, stated the rector of TUM.

The rector also had a message for the students who have not yet decided where to pursue their higher education after completing the pre-university degree:

– Know that engineering is precisely the field that will ensure you an extraordinary career! Yes, engineering is not a simple field at all, but a very complex and multidisciplinary one, and this is exactly why it is very attractive and beautiful. But I assure you that, when you graduate, you will find a very well paid job and you will have a successful career, because there is no civilization without engineers, especially since today we live in a digital revolution that has transformed the industry and the many other spheres unrelated to IT, whether it is economics, jurisprudence, philology or communications. All these fields have changed radically and a new generation of engineers is needed to implement new technologies in these sectors.

Thus, the students of the 58 study programs within TUM proudly displayed their technical-scientific achievements, such as the students of the study program “Automation and Informatics” from the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics – Dragoș MURSA, Iulian APOSTOL, Ilie CÎLCIC, who presented a set of automated systems and equipment: “Monitoring and control system of meteorological parameters”, “Intelligent mobile platform”, “Intelligent access control system for rooms, with a high degree of security”, “Automatic flood prevention system for apartments”, the given works being designed and developed under the guidance of their mentor, univ. asst. Dumitru MORARU, within the CIRCLE student club.

For the second part of the event, FCIM students organized several workshops: in the “Game of drones”, led by univ. asst. Sergiu Dubac, the participants had the opportunity to discover the magic of remote guidance of drones. At “RoboMaker”, the visitors were delighted to program a robot with multifunctional sensors, having the ability to independently travel a set distance, as well as avoid obstacles that appeared in its path. During the “Arduino” workshop, those interested were invited to build a smart candle, using the Arduino board, programmed with the help of the C++ language. The participants also learned to program and assemble a robotic arm with 6 degrees of freedom, but also to develop an electronic piano.

The students of the study programs “Public nutrition services”, “Technology and Management of Public Catering”, “Food technology” / Francophone Branch within the Faculty of Food Technology used their works to promote the healthy way of life and the benefits of a balanced nutrition. The display was followed by the creative workshops “The invisible life of microorganisms”, “Chemistry and food quality”, “Magic figurines – molding from salty dough”. The enthusiasm and the interest shown by the participants brought joy to the students of the Faculty of Food Technology, delighted by the number of people who care about the food they consume and what is a healthy diet.

An impressive exhibition of urban plans, design projects, graphic works and watercolor paintings was also presented by the students of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, who later invited those interested to participate in the workshops “Color harmony in your city”, “Watercolor – the possibilities for interpretation” – masterclasses for understanding and making use of colors in the interior of homes. The children present at the event were invited to demonstrate their creativity in the painting and sculpture workshops, held under the auspices of teachers Mariana HADJI-BANDALAC, Svetlana MELNIC and Victor DREBOT. Thus, those interested had the opportunity to experiment with the wet and dry watercolor techniques, to paint cardboard houses in their favorite color palette, to sculpt with plasticine and clay for creating bas-reliefs and spatial shapes – all within the workshop “Sculpture – from idea to shape”, as well as to build furniture and other interior elements from cardboard and colored paper – in the workshop “Urban planning”.

The young fashion designers from the Faculty of Textiles and Polygraphy presented their collections executed within their Bachelor projects in a spectacular Fashion Show, turning a part of the TUM Park into a real catwalk. Subsequently, the participants were invited by the students and teachers of the study program “Design and Printing Technology” to get involved in a workshop dedicated to the personalization of bags and backpacks made of textiles.

The TUM Observatory and Planetarium were also opened for those curious to test the telescope and the ultramodern screen to view a fascinating picture of celestial bodies, planets and constellations, in real time.

The event ended with a raffle, in which the most loyal participants in the event won various awards from TUM. The visitors thanked the TUM administration, the representatives of the 9 faculties and the team of the Career Information and Guidance Center (director: Radu MELNIC) for the organization of this event.
