Cycle II, Master Degree Studies
Master’s degree studies (Cycle II) can be pursued after completing undergraduate (Cycle I) studies and are offered by the Technical University of Moldova with a duration of 1.5 years (90 ECTS) or 2 years (120 ECTS).
The Master’s studies aim to ensure the formation of highly qualified specialists, develop scientific research skills, and provide access to doctoral studies.
Based on the order of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Moldova, the Technical University of Moldova is authorized to offer 44 master’s programs associated with 7 general fields of study:
Engineering and engineering activities – 18 programs
Manufacturing and processing technologies – 7 programs
Architecture and construction – 7 programs
Information and communication technologies – 5 programs
Economic sciences – 5 programs
Arts – 1 program
Law – 1 program
The training process is carried out according to curricula that include advanced courses in the respective field. The programs correspond to the latest global technical and economic requirements and are based on the newest developments in science, ensuring quality and efficiency in the future professional activity of master’s graduates.
42 of the master’s programs offered at UTM are research-oriented, providing the opportunity to develop research projects that can later evolve into a scientific thesis during doctoral (Cycle III) studies.
Admission to master’s degree studies is based on competition, in accordance with current legislation and the “Regulation on the organization of master’s degree studies, Cycle II,” approved by Government Decision, as well as the internal UTM regulation on the organization of Cycle II studies.
Applicants eligible for admission to Cycle II master’s studies must hold a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification recognized by the competent authority for the recognition and equivalence of study documents and qualifications. Upon completion of master’s studies, candidates must accumulate at least 300 transferable study credits for both study cycles combined.
If a candidate applies for a master’s program in a different field than their undergraduate specialization, they must obtain 30 credits in fundamental and specialized courses/modules related to the chosen field, as determined by the department offering the program. These credits represent the initial curricular minimum, which can also be obtained during undergraduate studies.
Master’s studies conclude with the public defense of the master’s thesis and the issuance of the master’s diploma, accompanied by a diploma supplement in both Romanian and English. The topics of the master’s theses are published on the official UTM website.
The master’s degree diploma certifies that the holder has acquired specific academic and/or professional competencies, including managerial, research, development, and innovation skills.
At UTM, there are also 9 joint master’s programs organized in partnership with several foreign universities, which culminate in the award of a double diploma.
