UTM and TUIASI Connect the Future through the CONNECTINNO Project

The Technical University of Moldova is taking another step toward the future of education by joining the CONNECTINNO project – Cross-Border Interconnected Mobile Networks for Education and Innovation, a cross-border initiative that links the Republic of Moldova and Romania through technology, education, and innovation.

The main objective of the project is to develop an integrated infrastructure in the field of mobile communications (5G and Internet of Things – IoT), aimed at modernizing engineering education and applied research. CONNECTINNO will create a digital bridge between the laboratories in Iași and Chișinău (UTM), offering students and professors a shared space for experimentation and real-time collaboration.

What CONNECTINNO brings:

  1. The setup of two state-of-the-art 5G–IoT laboratories in Iași and Chișinău;

  2. The creation of a shared virtual space for testing and research;

  3. The modernization of four engineering courses in the field of communications;

  4. The training of 15 academic staff and instruction of 40 students through a dedicated pilot program;

  5. The introduction of a new university course focused on innovation management;

  6. The organization of a joint Summer School and the Innovation Days event, designed to encourage creativity and collaboration among young researchers and the business sector.

The results achieved through CONNECTINNO extend beyond infrastructure and make a significant contribution to improving the quality of education and applied research at UTM. The project strengthens academic and scientific cooperation between UTM and TUIASI by developing a shared ecosystem for training and innovation based on emerging technologies.

By involving students and academic staff in hands-on activities and interdisciplinary research, CONNECTINNO is preparing a new generation of engineers equipped for the demands of the digital economy and the green transition. Moreover, by expanding collaboration with the ICT industry, the project enhances the region’s appeal for technological investment and fosters innovation across educational and economic networks.

Through the implementation of the CONNECTINNO project, the Technical University of Moldova reaffirms its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and sustainable partnerships, actively contributing to the digital transformation and sustainable development of the Republic of Moldova.

The project is funded by the European Union through the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI), and aims to strengthen cross-border cooperation between public institutions, the academic environment, and communities in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

Together, we are building a connected future!
