Science in the Republic of Moldova was celebrated at the highest level during the Gala of the Laureates of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (AȘM) Awards, held on November 10, 2025, on the occasion of the International Day of Science for Peace and Development.
The event highlighted the exceptional achievements of the country’s researchers, with the Technical University of Moldova shining through three laureates recognized for their outstanding contributions in the fields of engineering, biotechnology, and applied sciences.
Dr. Mihai Tîrșu, director of the Institute of Power Engineering at UTM, received the AȘM Award in Engineering, the “Boris Lazarenco” Prize, for a series of works dedicated to the decarbonization of the energy sector, making a substantial contribution to promoting sustainable solutions and energy efficiency, in line with the transition toward a green economy. A vital step toward a sustainable energy future!
Corresponding member of AȘM, Dr. Habil. Rodica Sturza, was awarded the AȘM Prize in Agriculture, the “Andrei Ursu” Prize, for a series of studies on improving food quality through biotechnology and food engineering, research that has a direct impact on food safety and consumer health. An achievement that ensures safer and healthier food!
Professor Dr. Habil. Nicolae Eremia was honored with the “Academic Merit” Diploma for his remarkable achievements in the field of applied and fundamental beekeeping sciences, an area in which UTM has built a valuable scientific tradition recognized at the national level.
The event emphasized the important role of science in today’s society. In his message, academician Ion Tighineanu, President of AȘM, highlighted the transformative role of science in a constantly changing world: “Science is essential for a prosperous future and must serve peace, not war.”
