UTM Launches Sci-TRUST, a Project Bringing Science Closer to Young People

The Technical University of Moldova has launched Sci-TRUST – Building Trust in Science: European Researchers’ Night, a project that brings research closer to the public and shows how science connects to everyday life.

Sci-TRUST aims to build interest in STEAM fields and inspire young people to explore education and careers in research. The project will include a series of events where pupils and students can experience science in a more practical, interactive and accessible way. Through demonstrations, meetings with researchers and hands-on activities, Sci-TRUST turns research into something people can see, test and understand directly.

As part of the project, UTM will coordinate Sci-TRUST activities in Chișinău. The university will host an Open Day for Innovation and Research, planetarium demonstrations and interactive presentations of its research infrastructure. Visitors will get to see how UTM’s laboratories, equipment and technologies are used in education, research and applied projects.

Young people are at the center of the project. Pupils, students and teachers will take part in masterclasses, STEAM demonstrations, innovation competitions and direct conversations with researchers from different fields. These activities will give them a closer look at how research happens in laboratories, schools and public spaces.

Speaking about the project’s role in promoting science and STEAM fields among young people, UTM Rector Viorel Bostan said:

“A country’s technological development is built on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through this project, we want to promote these fields across society, especially among young people, and show the value of scientific truth and reliable information grounded in clear evidence.”

An important part of the project is Researchers in Schools, an initiative that brings research directly into pre-university education. Through partnerships with more than 20 schools, over 1,000 pupils and teachers will gain access to research-based resources and activities.

Through Sci-TRUST, UTM is building stronger connections between the university, schools, researchers and the wider public. The project helps shape a generation more connected to science, while also strengthening the university’s role in Moldova’s technological development.

The project is coordinated by the Technical University of Moldova. The consortium includes the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Alecu Russo State University of Bălți, the InfoGroup Association and Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

Sci-TRUST is implemented under the Horizon Europe program and will run from May 1, 2026, to April 30, 2028. Activities will take place nationwide, with a focus on Chișinău and Bălți.

The Sci-TRUST project, “Building Trust in Science: European Researchers’ Night,” is funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program, under grant agreement No. 101305415.

Coordinator: Technical University of Moldova.
