Sandu GRAUR and Andrei LEONTE, fourth-year students at the UTM Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, achieved remarkable success at the 10th edition of the prestigious competition “Bridge and Wooden Truss Models – CADRE,” organized by the Faculty of Railways, Roads, and Bridges of the Technical University of Civil Engineering in Bucharest (UTCB). Their team, “Zeus,” won the First Prize in the “Bridge Models” section, impressing the jury with their creativity, aesthetics, and strength.
This year’s edition of the CADRE Competition – a reference event for future engineers, held from December 5-7, 2024, brought together 159 participants from various higher education institutions from across the Prut River. This event gives young engineers the opportunity to showcase their practical skills in design and construction.
Of the 91 teams participating, 61 competed in the “Bridge Models” section, while another 30 teams participated in the “Truss Models” section. The projects were evaluated based on rigorous criteria, such as structural strength and aesthetic design.
The students of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning participated in the Bucharest competition for the third consecutive year, proudly representing UTM. Using materials provided by the competition organizers, they created two ingenious projects for the “Beauty” and “Strength” categories, under the guidance of Lecturer Andrei BURAGA, PhD, and with the support of the faculty’s interim dean, Associate Professor Eugeniu BRAGUȚA, PhD. One of the wooden structures weighed only 200 grams, yet managed to support an impressive weight of nearly 570 kilograms, setting a new record in the competition. For this outstanding performance, the team was awarded a diploma and a prize worth 1,200 Romanian lei.

The “Zeus” team stood out for their originality and innovation, winning First Place in the “Bridge Models” category.
