On December 11, 2024, the Sports Center of the Technical University of Moldova hosted a grand sporting celebration to mark the 60th anniversary of UTM’s founding – the Olympic lesson CNOS “UTM Sports Constellation.” Bringing together national and world champions, students, professors, and distinguished guests from the world of sports, the event celebrated remarkable achievements in performance sports and physical education, demonstrating the strong connection between academic education and sports performance at UTM.
The ceremony kicked off in the Large Sports Hall with a rendition of the student anthem “Gaudeamus Igitur” by the UTM Choir. The event was attended by UTM’s administration, which has long supported sports activities, along with representatives from the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC), and many professors and students who were not only there to watch but also actively participated in the competitions.
The rector of UTM, Viorel Bostan, delivered a welcoming speech, highlighting the importance of sports in developing a healthy and competitive young generation:
“Sport is more than a physical activity; it is a catalyst for discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. At the Technical University of Moldova, sports play an essential role in academic life. Together, we create a community where academic achievements and athletic excellence go hand in hand. Today, as we celebrate 60 years since UTM’s founding, we also honor the Olympic spirit that pushes us to exceed our limits.”

Anatolie Popușoi, Head of the Physical Education and Sports Department at UTM, shared that sports go beyond just competition; they are also about encouraging a healthy lifestyle. “Events like the Sports Constellation are an opportunity to celebrate the efforts of all those who contribute to the university’s sporting success – students, coaches, and professors. Thank you for your dedication, and congratulations to all of you for your remarkable achievements,” he said.
The event continued with a series of exciting sports demonstrations by UTM’s representative teams, including:
- Showcase exercises in various sports areas
- Modern and folk dances that blended grace and energy
- Acrobatic displays and stunning performances.
Awarding Sporting Excellence
A highlight of the event was the recognition of UTM athletes who excelled in national and international competitions. Trophies were also awarded in the following categories:
- The most athletic student dorm, with Dormitory No. 2 of UTM taking the prize
- The most athletic faculties, student teams, and sports organizers
- UTM College, honored for the outstanding achievements of its students.
The event was graced by the presence of notable sports figures from Moldova, including:
- Nicolae Juravschi, President of the National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOS) and double Olympic champion
- Larisa Popova, Vice President of CNOS and Olympic champion
- Oleg Moldovan, Olympic medalist.
The Olympic lesson “UTM Sports Constellation” once again demonstrated that sports are an integral part of university life, contributing to the overall development of students. The event was a celebration of performance, team spirit, and Olympic values, emphasizing the close link between academic tradition and sports excellence.
