Impressive Success of UTM’s FTA Students Olga DONEȚ and Elena SERGHEEVA at the International “Black Sea Science” Competition

Two young researchers from the Technical University of Moldova, Olga DONEȚ, third-year student in “Food Product Technology”, and Elena SERGHEEVA, a master’s student in “Quality and Safety of Food Products” program of the UTM Faculty of Food Technology have showcased the results of their research at the annual “Black Sea Science” international competition of student scientific works held at the Odessa National University of Technology. This notable achievement underscores the active engagement of UTM students in scientific inquiry and their aspirations for international recognition.

The event, organized in collaboration with the Black Sea Universities Network and the ISEKI-Food Association, provided a platform for participants to delve into specific priority areas such as Food Science and Technology, Economics and Management, Information Technology, Automation and Robotics, Energetics and Energy Efficiency; Ecology and Environmental Protection; Tourism and Hospitality Business.

With participants from 23 countries, including Angola, Benin, USA, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, UK, Greece, China, Turkey, Oman, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, Estonia, Croatia, Kazakhstan, Poland, Georgia, Romania, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, and Moldova, the competition attracted over 144 specialist researchers and 358 scientific papers. Despite the fierce competition, our students managed to stand out, securing a commendable second place in the “Food Science and Technology” category.

Under the mentorship of Natalia NETREBA, PhD, an associate professor at the Department of Food Product Technology within the UTM Faculty of Food Technology, Olga and Elena conducted research on “Shortbread Cookies with Dried Pumpkin Pulp: Obtaining and Quality Index Characteristics.” Their study not only reflects their high level of professional training but also their talent, dedication, and perseverance in scientific inquiry, underscoring the importance of involving young people in research projects that contribute to innovation and progress in various fields.
