2022 European Researchers’ Night

On September 30, the famous outdoor Park-Museum of Technology in the Râșcani campus of the Technical University of Moldova was engulfed by the magic of science. UTM joined the more than 400 European cities in the celebration of research, development and innovation at the “2022 European Researchers’ Night”.

– It is the 9th time we get the chance to experience the joy of this extraordinary European event – “European Researchers’ Night”, which takes place simultaneously in hundreds of locations in the EU, including the Republic of Moldova, declared the rector of UTM, Univ. Prof., Dr. Viorel BOSTAN. Here researchers have the opportunity to talk about their achievements and the importance of research and science in the development of a country. For us, this is an extraordinary event, which we traditionally organize in the UTM Park, and now, for the first time, in the square of the “Alecu Russo” State University in Bălți as well. This is our time, together with the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the Public Association “InfoGroup”, to show the world what we’ve achieved over the last few years. We hope that our work and results will attract as many young people as possible to follow the path of research, as research is essential for a country’s future.

The special guests of the event – the Minister of Education and Research, Anatole TOPALĂ, the president of AȘM, acad. Ion TIGHINEANU, the director of “InfoGrup”, Dr. Igor COJOCARU, and the rector of USARB, Dr. Natalia GAȘIȚOI, came with a message of encouragement for the young generation to pursue a career in the field of research and science in order to contribute to the well-being of society and the sustainable development of the Republic of Moldova.

The visitors had the chance to discover the fascinating process of creating and the benefits of creation, research and innovation, having the opportunity to admire the works displayed in the “Creation opens the Universe” exhibition, in which highschool, Bachelor and Master students, under the guidance of their professors, presented the most original ideas and innovative solutions discovered within STE(A)M projects. The event also included the works of the young people passionate about Robotics, Mechatronics, Automatics and Electronics, who promoted green science in the “Green Planet Challenge” robotics competition. The two events were organized with the support of the Scientix4 project, within which UTM is the National Contact Point.

The ECO theme was further promoted in a photo contest exhibition – “The biodiversity around you”, and in an exceptional ECO Fashion Show, presented by the students of the UTM Faculty of Design. The young fashion designers delighted the public with outfits created in an ECO style, choosing suggestive names for their collections – FLORET, DENIM, LIBERTE, PATHOS, MOTIV FLORAL and IMPLEMENTATION OF BIONIC FORMS.

The event program consisted of a series of interactive activities, including an exceptional Open Science Café, where participants could enjoy a discussion with scientists over a cup of coffee. Children of all ages, teenagers, but also adults had the opportunity to take part in the conduct of scientific experiments, to apply their skills in the sculpture, painting, architecture and design workshops, as well as in other classes. The hands-on approach to exploring the world of science set up the perfect environment for the new explorers to create unforgettable memories.

The public was also invited to the long-awaited “Doors Open Night at the UTM Planetarium and Observatory (Chișinău)” and to the “Doors Open Night at the Research Laboratories in Bălți”.

The event included a concert performed by the “Vocile Primăverii” choir of the “Ion Creangă” Theoretical High School in Chișinău, the “Gaudeamus” choir of the “Alecu Russo” State University in Bălți, and a musical performance of the beloved singer Pasha PARFENI.

The “European Researchers’ Night” event was organized within the “GreenSCI – Green Science for a Healthy Society” project, implemented by the Technical University of Moldova, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the “Alecu Russo” State University of Bălți, and NGO “Infogrup”. This year, the event was held for the first time in Bălți.Disclaimer logo - 2022 European Researchers' Night
