Between November 8-12, 2020, at the invitation of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey – TÜBITAK, the rector of the Technical University of Moldova, Prof., Dr. Viorel BOSTAN, visits Ankara, within a representative delegation of the Republic of Moldova.

The delegation includes: Olga TAGADIUC – Director of the National Agency for Research and Development of the Republic of Moldova; Serghei ZAHARIA – rector of the State University of Comrat, ATU Gagauzia; Stanislav GROPPA – vice-rector for activity in Research, Medicine and Pharmacy, USMF „Nicolae Testemițanu”; Larisa CAISÎN – head of department, Faculty of Agronomy, State Agrarian University of Moldova; Artiom JUCOV – assistant professor, USMF “Nicolae Testemițanu”; S.E. Dmitri CROITOR, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova in the Republic of Turkey; Corina PRIGORSCHI – Secretary, Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the Republic of Turkey.

The visit is a result of the joint meeting between TÜBİTAK and the relevant research and innovation institutes in the Republic of Moldova, organized online, on July 21, by the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Turkey, in cooperation with TÜBİTAK, with the title “Co-creating new platforms for collaboration”. During the meeting, the representatives of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Education and Research, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the top universities in the Republic of Moldova noted the successes of the Republic of Moldova in research and innovation, especially in the field of nanotechnologies. Additionally, the first results of the collaboration of the National Agency for Research and Development with TÜBİTAK based on the existing Cooperation Protocol were highlighted, followed by discussions on the creation of new partnerships between research centers, universities and academia in the two countries. The national institutions, in collaboration with TÜBİTAK, have agreed to develop and implement a Joint Action Plan for the years 2020-2023 in the field of research and innovation.

Given that, in 2023, Turkey will mark a centenary of its establishment, the Turkish Council sets a set of major goals in science, technology and innovation, with the aim of “producing more valuable results for a stronger and more prosperous Turkey”. Similar objectives are targeted by the National Research and Innovation Program of Moldova for the years 2020-2023, which would allow the two countries to work together in the common strategic areas. The current visit to Ankara aims to ponder on a cooperation for achieving common goals and opening up new opportunities.

In this context, the members of the Republic of Moldova visited Bilkent University, where they met the Rector, Prof., Dr. Abdullah ATALAR, and the Vice-Rector, Prof., Dr. Orhan AYTUR. At the Gazi University, round tables were held with the participation of the Rector – Prof., Dr. Musa YILDIZ, the Vice-Rector – Prof., Dr. Ramazan BAYINDIR, the Rector’s Advisor – Prof., Dr. Halil İbrahim BÜLBÜL, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy – Prof., Dr. İlkay ERDOĞAN ORHAN, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine – Prof., Dr. Mustafa Necmi İLHAN, Dean of the Faculty of Technology – Prof., Dr. Süleyman TEKELİ, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering – Prof., Dr. Şeref SAĞIROĞLU and the coordinator of the Technology Park – Hazal YILMAZ. More visits have taken place to Hacettepe University and Hacettepe Technopolis, accompanied by the Rector, Prof., Dr. Mehmet Cahit GÜRAN, as well as to Ankara University, where they were greeted by the Rector, Prof., Dr. Necdet ÜNUVAR. 

The day of November 10 was entirely dedicated to the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey – TÜBITAK. The members of the Republic of Moldova were shown several subdivisions: ARDEB – Academic Research Funding Programs Directorate, TEYDEB – Technology and Innovation Grants Programs Directorate, METU Teknokent, but also TÜBİTAK UZAY – Space Technology Research Institute. On the last day, November 11, a visit to the TÜBİTAK headquarters is expected, where an official meeting with the winners of bilateral calls will take place, as well as a presentation of BIDEB – Department of Scientific Scholarships and Grant Programs, followed by a trip to TÜBİTAK SAGE (Ankara – Lalahan).
