Ten teams built robots and sent them into the ring to fight it out at Moldova’s first-ever combat robotics competition. The Technical University of Moldova (UTM) was an event partner.
The project began six months ago with one goal: to bring a format that’s hugely popular in the US to Moldova.
The competition will now serve as the basis for a university course in combat robotics at UTM’s Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics (FCIM). In the long term, UTM plans to launch a combat robotics tournament for university teams.
I'd like to thank the organisers for having the vision to bring this competition over from the other side of the Atlantic. This is the first event of its kind, and I'm sure it will become a great story, one we'll still be pointing to as an example five or ten years from now. You should all be proud to have been part of the very first combat robotics competition. We're delighted to support this initiative and this extraordinary generation of young people who are so passionate about engineering, robotics, electronics and computing
Teams competed for three prizes: a Bambu Lab A1 3D printer, a Bambu Lab A1 mini and three spools of Bambu PLA Tough+ filament.
The winners were:
- 1st place: Cubic
- 2nd place: RoboRangers
- 3rd place: One Way
Two more teams took home special awards:
- Inginer, for Excellence in Design
- Websco, for Innovation
"We're wrapping up this first edition full of excitement and already looking forward to what's next. I'm thrilled to see the goal we set six months ago become a reality and spark interest among people who love robotics, team sports and the action these battles bring. Knowing Moldova's robotics scene as well as I do, I think it's only a matter of time before our teams are dominating international championships, and knowing we can help make that happen through this initiative is a special feeling.
Through funding, prizes and plans to bring combat robotics into the curriculum, UTM is helping to grow tech education in Moldova and support the next generation of engineers.
