From Medical Robots to Green Energy: Young Engineers Present Their Projects at the “Sergiu Rădăuțan” Competition

Each year, the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics at the Technical University of Moldova organizes the International Student Competition “Microelectronic Systems Engineering – Sergiu Rădăuțan.” This year’s edition carried special significance, marking 100 years since the birth of UTM’s first rector.

The competition gives students a platform to share new ideas, present applied projects and connect with others working in technical research. Year after year, it brings together young people interested in electronics, microelectronics and biomedical systems. This edition focused on two main areas: electronic systems engineering and biomedical systems engineering.

Students presented solutions inspired by real needs in society and the market. The projects included:

  • Digital Telemetry and Secure Monitoring System;
  • Photovoltaic-Powered Lighting Park;
  • AquaGenesis – Hybrid Hydrographic Regeneration System;
  • Intelligent Robotic Platform Based on Data Fusion for Autonomous Biomedical Assistance.

For participants, the competition is also a chance to develop ideas as a team and present them to the academic community. Delia Țugui, an FCIM student who took part with her team, said:

“I believe UTM plays an important role in training future engineers. A university is, first and foremost, a scientific center, and collaboration is at the heart of academic growth. Students need to work together, communicate and create systems and projects that bring real value to society.”

This year, the competition brought together 41 student teams from universities and technical education institutions in Moldova and Romania. The participating institutions were:

  • Technical University of Moldova – 15 teams, 24 students;
  • Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iași – 11 teams, 14 students;
  • Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași – 8 teams, 13 students;
  • Dunărea de Jos University of Galați – 3 teams, 5 students;
  • Center of Excellence in Energy and Electronics – 3 teams, 3 students;
  • College of the Technical University of Moldova – 1 team, 4 students.

By organizing this competition, UTM supports practical training and encourages student participation in technical research. The “Sergiu Rădăuțan” competition helps prepare future specialists in fields important to the country’s development, giving students the chance to present their projects, connect with experts and companies, and take the next step in their professional journey.
