As technologies are continuously developing at an extraordinarily rapid pace, the prospects of tech jobs in the labor market are steadily growing. Thus, completing a degree in an engineering field has become a trendy choice. In this regard, the Technical University of Moldova – the only higher education institution for engineering in the country – promotes the pursuit of a technical education based on creativity and openness to new opportunities.
On April 29, 550 high school students, together with their parents and teachers, attended the Doors Open Day at UTM, an event organized with the support of the Center of Career Guidance and Counseling (CCOC), represented by director Radu MELNIC and deputy director Natalia ŞESTENCO, but also of the deans and managers from the 11 faculties of UTM.
The objectives of the event included the familiarization of the young people with the specifics of the UTM faculties, the educational offer of the institution, as well as the admission requirements, the meeting acting as a favorable occasion to understand what are the expectations of today’s young generation regarding professional development. The event was opened by the vice-rector for Didactic Activity, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Vladislav REȘITCA, who declared himself pleasantly surprised by the students’ interest in the inevitable connection between their future and the progress of new technologies, a deduction supported by a question asked during the meeting: “To what extent do the studies at UTM keep pace with the development of technology?”. The organizers noted that the interest displayed by the students is not just simple curiosity, since many of them already know which path they want to take after graduation, and UTM aims to fulfill its purpose by attracting and/or preparing young people who possess critical thinking, creative understanding, and are able to relate correctly to a continuously developing world.
The schedule of the event included a tour around the 11 faculties of UTM. The deans, vice-deans, heads of departments and heads of study programmes showed the students the lecture rooms, laboratories, workshops, and centers of excellence and creativity of UTM. Also, the young people had the opportunity to communicate with students who benefited from academic mobility in various countries, as well as with graduates of UTM, who have become renowned specialists in their fields of activity, and who relate their success stories to their experience at UTM, which played a significant role in their careers and lives.
