The Technical University of Moldova has launched the Center for Innovation in Viticulture and Winemaking, created to connect the university’s expertise with the needs of the wine industry. The center will combine hands-on education, applied research and direct collaboration with producers to develop new tools and approaches for the sector.
CIVV’s main goal is to strengthen the competitiveness of Moldovan wines. The center will develop and promote technological, scientific and educational innovations designed to support both grape growing and wine production.
In practice, the Center for Innovation in Viticulture and Winemaking will provide practical assistance for producers, students and industry specialists. It will give producers, students and specialists a place to test new technologies, methods and solutions across different stages of wine production.
CIVV will offer services such as:
- soil, water, grape and wine analysis;
- support for vineyard monitoring;
- consultancy for producers;
- testing of modern winemaking solutions;
- courses and hands-on activities for students and specialists.
The center will contribute to student training through interactive projects, internships and learning programs. Students will work with micro-winemaking, laboratory analysis, vineyard monitoring and modern technologies. This experience will connect their studies more directly to the needs of the industry.
Speaking about how university research can respond to producers’ needs, Elizaveta Breahnă, Head of CIVV, said:
“We want the results of UTM’s research and education to be applied directly in viticulture and winemaking. Through CIVV-UTM’s services and opportunities, producers can better understand the university’s expertise, infrastructure and available solutions.”
The Center for Innovation in Viticulture and Winemaking will help develop digital solutions for vineyard monitoring, wine traceability and smart marketing. It will also promote sustainable practices across the sector, with a focus on efficiency, quality and the ability to adapt to market changes.
With the launch of CIVV-UTM, the Technical University of Moldova brings education, research and the economy closer together. The center gives the wine sector access to academic expertise, laboratory infrastructure and applied solutions. It also supports future specialists and helps modernize a strategic field for Moldova.
The launch event was organized by UTM’s Center for Innovation in Viticulture and Winemaking, in partnership with Constylus/Moldova, WiLLMES/Germany, Belfort Agro/Romania and Da Bacco/Romania.
