UTM’s Mircești campus is becoming the hub of new agri-tech initiatives with the launch of construction on the Agrotek Arena Business Incubator. On July 8, 2025, the Technical University of Moldova officially reaffirmed its strong commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship by initiating work on the Agrotek Arena Business Incubator, strategically located on the Mircești university campus.
This ambitious project is the result of a robust partnership between UTM, the Innovate Moldova Program—led by the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization—and essential financial backing from Sweden and the Ukraine-Moldova American Enterprise Fund (UMAEF). Together, these partners are creating a modern, four-story facility dedicated to entrepreneurs aiming to revolutionize agriculture through technology.

By this autumn, the building will be fully equipped with state‑of‑the‑art infrastructure, ready to host the first startups and innovative initiatives. Key facilities include conference rooms, networking and collaborative spaces, modern offices, and specialized technical zones. The 1,300 m² multifunctional space across floors 1–3 of Agrotek Arena is expected to host up to 30 residents—ranging from startups and student entrepreneurs to researchers and SMEs.
All these resources will primarily serve ventures in high‑growth sectors such as agrotechnology (Agrotech)—smart solutions for sustainable and efficient agriculture (Digital Agriculture, Robotics, FoodTech); sector‑specific media platforms promoting agricultural innovation; and hospitality and agrotourism industries—technologies applied to develop rural services and exploit tourism potential.
The interest shown in this incubator highlights its value and necessity. Already, five local entrepreneurs have expressed interest in becoming resident members of this innovative space, with the list growing—clear evidence that the initiative meets real market needs and that this platform has major potential to impact Moldova’s economic development. It is estimated that the robust ecosystem created here will host around 3,000 students, farmers, and food processors annually.

At the signing ceremony, UTM Rector Prof. Viorel Bostan stressed the strategic importance of the project:
“UTM is not just a technical university—it is a nursery of ideas, a laboratory of the future. With this incubator, we offer young people not only in-depth knowledge and access to cutting-edge technology, but also the essential space where their entrepreneurial visions and ambitions can take shape and become a reality. This strategic investment in Agrotek Arena’s infrastructure reaffirm our commitment to being an innovation engine, preparing the next generation of leaders and innovators who will propel Moldova’s economy toward a prosperous, digital future. Our goal is to create an ecosystem that supports the development of 30 residents—startups, students, researchers, and SMEs—facilitating the transition to a fully operational Agrotek Park.”
The Agrotek Arena incubator will play a central role in developing Moldova’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, contributing to forming a dynamic community of innovators. This initiative actively supports agrotech entrepreneurs and complements UTM’s core mission of integrating education, research, and innovation into a single cohesive force with a direct impact on the country’s sustainable development.
The incubator will incorporate technologies from 14 agri-tech providers, including key U.S. solutions such as Davis weather stations for precise agricultural data, AgTech GPS precision systems from Biosfera, and PlanetLabs’ Cropio ERP systems to enhance agricultural data analysis and operational efficiency.
European cutting-edge technologies will also be included: Uniform Agri (Millstream Trade SRL), a modern farm animal health and nutrition monitoring system; a hydroponics greenhouse system (Croponix SRL); and the Black Shire autonomous electric agricultural robot (iFarms, Italy), designed for field tasks like spraying, mowing, and cultivation using a patented navigation system from Conterno & Bona.

Also present at the event was Doina Nistor, Moldova’s Minister of Economic Development and Digitalisation, who welcomed the initiative:
“Today we mark a crucial milestone for innovation and entrepreneurship in Moldova. The construction of the Agrotek Arena business incubator—in partnership with UTM, Innovate Moldova, Sweden, and UMAEF—is tangible proof of our commitment to invest where ideas grow, where young people learn, and where innovation takes shape. This modern space dedicated to agrotech, media, and hospitality entrepreneurs will catalyze our country’s economic development and digital transformation. By autumn, we’ll see conference rooms, networking zones, offices, and technical areas ready to host the first startups. We are confident that the initial five entrepreneurs already engaged will create revolutionary solutions and significantly contribute to transforming Moldova’s agriculture and economy, building a vital bridge between academia and industry and boosting international partnerships.”

The memorandum establishes a high‑level cooperation framework that, while non‑binding, is based on strong principles of collaboration and a shared commitment to transforming Moldova’s agricultural sector.
UTM has a key role in implementing and sustaining the project via Agrotek Park SRL, contributing by clearing out old materials and waste; improving energy efficiency with window replacements on five floors; installing modern heating on four floors; providing appropriate parking; appointing a project supervisor; attracting and supporting resident companies for 3–5 years; facilitating their transition to Agrotek Park once it’s established; and ensuring residents access UTM’s labs, Agrotek Arena’s 15 provider technologies, greenhouses, digital farms, and 0.4 ha of experimental test land.
Ukraine–Moldova American Enterprise Fund, backed by the U.S. government, is providing support for renovating 500 m² of office space on floors 2 and 3—adding meeting rooms, a media studio, and networking zones; enhancing energy efficiency through LED lighting and upgraded heating; stimulating innovation and real-world business testing; designing and launching an accelerator program by September 2025 with training, mentoring, and networking events; and promoting international cooperation with U.S. businesses and tech providers.
The Moldovan Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalisation contributes through policy and institutional support for integrating emerging technologies in the agri-food sector; backing national digital agriculture programs (digital registries, precision platforms, pilot blockchain initiatives); promoting investment and financial access for agri-tech startups and SMEs; encouraging agri-tech talent and academia–industry partnerships; ensuring cybersecurity and data governance for agricultural innovation; and taking part in inter-institutional working groups aligned with Moldova’s digitalisation strategy and the EU Green Deal.
Sweden’s Innovate Moldova program—a key force in strengthening the national innovation ecosystem—is co-leading development of Agrotek Arena’s innovation and entrepreneurship model in line with EU practices; supporting programs to build digital agri skills, STEAM education focusing on youth and women; fostering links among startups, research institutions, and private actors locally and internationally; facilitating EU market integration and green transition via pilot programs and business development services; supporting international collaboration and technology transfer with EU R&D centers; helping coordinate and manage the project; co-financing interior works on floors 2–4; providing materials for the canteen and adjacent offices; supporting energy efficiency upgrades and electrical infrastructure improvements; and engaging in political advocacy for long-term sustainability of Agrotek Arena and Agrotek Park initiatives.
At UTM, we continue to invest where ideas grow, where young people learn, and where innovation takes shape. The Agrotek Arena business incubator stands as living proof that Moldova’s entrepreneurial future begins today—with confidence, strong partnerships, and a clear vision.
