The Technical University of Moldova and the Competition Council to Promote a Culture of Competition Among Young Professionals

Today, May 19, 2025, the Rector of the Technical University of Moldova, Professor Viorel Bostan, PhD, and the President of the Competition Council, Alexei Gherțescu, signed a collaboration agreement that marks the beginning of a strategic partnership between the two institutions. The primary goal of this agreement is to promote a culture of competition and to strengthen the theoretical and practical training of students in key areas such as competition policy, state aid, advertising, regulation of railway transport services, unfair commercial practices, and online intermediation.

During the event, Rector Bostan emphasized the many opportunities this partnership will bring to UTM students and faculty: “Signing this collaboration agreement with the Competition Council marks the start of a solid strategic partnership, built on shared values: transparency, integrity, and professional excellence. The rules of the market and principles of fair competition have always been, and continue to be, essential for the sustainable development of a modern economy. That is why education in these areas becomes a priority.”

In turn, President Alexei Gherțescu highlighted the importance of engaging with the academic environment: “With this agreement, we aim to bring the field of competition closer to future professionals. Our collaboration with UTM gives us a strong platform to help train a new generation of economists, engineers, and managers who understand the principles of a market economy and can support the development of a healthy competitive environment in the Republic of Moldova.”

The signing was also attended by Associate Professor Ala Oberșt and Associate Professor Rina Țurcan, Head of the Department of Economics and Management within the Faculty of Economic Engineering and Business.

According to the agreement, both parties will jointly organize lectures, roundtables, themed events, and internships, while experts from the Competition Council will actively contribute to the teaching process at UTM. The document also provides for the Council’s involvement in developing university curricula related to competition and regulated markets.

The partnership is set to be implemented over a period of five years, with the possibility of extension, laying the foundation for long-term professional development for students and promoting a fair, innovation-driven market economy.

Through this partnership, the Technical University of Moldova reaffirms its role as an active contributor to shaping a new generation of professionals who will help strengthen a functional and fair market economy in the Republic of Moldova. UTM remains committed to promoting interdisciplinary education, supporting public responsibility initiatives, and building lasting bridges between academia and key state institutions.
