UTM, the First University in Moldova to Integrate SAP S/4HANA into Economic Programs Curriculum

The Technical University of Moldova is taking a decisive step in economic education by becoming the first higher education institution in the Republic of Moldova to integrate SAP S/4HANA into the curricula of its economics programs. This initiative opens new opportunities for students, equipping them with essential skills for a successful career in the digital economy.

Between March 3-5, 2025, the Faculty of Economic Engineering and Business (FIEB) at UTM hosted a series of training sessions for professors and students, focusing on incorporating SAP S/4HANA (Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing) into the educational process. For the first time in Moldova, UTM students enrolled in Accounting, Finance and Banking, Business and Administration, Marketing, and Logistics programs have access to this cutting-edge technology.

This large-scale project was carried out as part of the SAP University Alliance (SAPUA) initiative to integrate SAP S/4HANA into the educational curriculum at UTM.

A key role in organizing and funding these training sessions was played by Natalia Mogâldea, CEO of SOPRIS SRL, a company within Prof. Thome Group. Thanks to the support provided by SOPRIS SRL, this project became a reality, enabling UTM students and faculty to gain international expertise in using SAP S/4HANA and demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing economic education in Moldova.

Organized in collaboration with German partners, the training sessions featured Dr. Eduard Gerhardt, a SAP specialist from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Coburg, Germany, who has been facilitating both in-person and remote training for the past two years. The event included theoretical sessions and practical workshops, covering the application of SAP S/4HANA across various economic sectors. Topics covered included:

  • Order to Cash (OTC) in S/4HANA (from order placement to payment collection)
  • Human resource management
  • Logistics and procurement
  • Quality management
  • Accounting and financial management

Integrating SAP S/4HANA into UTM’s curriculum is not just an innovation but a necessity in today’s digital economy. Students develop hands-on skills recognized internationally, making them more attractive to employers and better prepared for the demands of the job market. They benefit from:

  • Access to a platform used by leading companies worldwide
  • Internationally recognized practical skills that are highly valued by employers
  • Applied learning through case studies and hands-on exercises that demonstrate SAP S/4HANA’s real-world applications
  • Adaptation to the latest digital technologies used in business
  • Enhanced employability, as UTM graduates gain practical knowledge of a platform widely used by global corporations

UTM’s integration into the SAP University Alliance Program is supported by Veaceslav Șutchevici, a member of UTM’s Institutional Strategic Development Council (CDSI), along with representatives from the private sector who implement SAP and contribute to the development of the SAP ecosystem in Moldova.

Representatives of companies already using SAP S/4HANA emphasized that implementing this platform is a significant advantage in resource management and process optimization. Among the economic partners who shared their expertise with students, offering insights into the practical applications of SAP S/4HANA, were:

  • Erich Jaeger Mol SRL
  • SE Bordnetze (SEBN MD) SRL
  • Efes Vitanta Moldova Brewery SA
  • MDC & Partners SRL

SAP S/4HANA is a next-generation Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) suite developed by SAP, designed on the SAP HANA platform, utilizing in-memory processing for high performance and real-time analytics.

In 2024, UTM became a member of SAP University Alliances (SAPUA), a global initiative by SAP that collaborates with universities and academic institutions to provide students with access to SAP technologies, including SAP S/4HANA.
