UTM, Part of a Bilateral Research Project between the Republic of Moldova and Germany

On February 18, 2025, the Technical University of Moldova marked a significant milestone in its academic and scientific journey with the launch of the bilateral project between the Republic of Moldova and Germany: “Strengthening Research Capacities at Higher Education Institutions in the Republic of Moldova (2025-2026).” Funded by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANCD) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) under the ProMoMo program, the project aims to revitalize university research in Moldova.

The project is being carried out in partnership with Leipzig University and involves four higher education institutions in Moldova: the Technical University of Moldova, Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Moldova State University, and Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University. This initiative represents a strategic step towards harmonizing Moldovan academic standards with European ones and better integrating into the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

The primary goal and impact of this initiative focus on developing a common research agenda in strategic scientific fields of interest to Moldova. Its objectives include:

  • Adjusting the doctoral school curricula of the partner institutions according to European requirements and standards, facilitating access to international funding programs;
  • Stimulating international collaborations by identifying opportunities and developing joint research projects in the fields of humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and medicine;
  • Creating a sustainable network of researchers to foster knowledge exchange and technological transfer within the European academic space.

To achieve these objectives, the project will include a series of key activities designed to support the development of research capacities at the partner institutions:

  • Three workshops on “Research Design and Research Methods,” organized for young researchers and doctoral students (May-September 2025);
  • 13 mobility internships at Leipzig University to facilitate the development of joint research projects and exchange experiences between the partner institutions.
