On June 7th, in honor of the Trade Unionist Day in the Republic of Moldova, the Primary Trade Union Organization (OSP) of employees at the Technical University of Moldova celebrated 60 years since its founding. The event was attended by distinguished guests, including UTM Rector Professor Viorel BOSTAN, and notable representatives from the trade union sectors in Moldova and Romania.

Recognizing the crucial role the trade union plays in supporting UTM’s faculty and staff, the celebration included a series of heartfelt and meaningful moments. Honoring the significant contributions of those who founded and developed the organization over the years, honorary diplomas were awarded to former presidents of UTM’s trade union, current trade union office presidents, and dedicated union members who have strengthened the organization’s values over the years.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of an emotional documentary film—a journey through the history of UTM’s Primary Trade Union Organization. The documentary showcased the remarkable achievements and substantial contributions of its members over the past 60 years, offering attendees an opportunity to reflect on the progress made and appreciate the importance of continuity and perseverance in the trade union movement.
Another special moment was a video message from academician Ion BOSTAN, former rector of UTM from 1992 to 2015. His message emphasized the strong partnership he had with the UTM trade union and highlighted the value of collaboration between the university administration and the trade union in achieving common goals.

The event concluded with the signing of an important cooperation agreement with the Trade Union of employees from the Politehnica University of Bucharest, represented by Mihai BUȚU, Vice President of the “Alma Mater” National Federation of Trade Unions from Romania. This agreement marks a new phase in strengthening international relations and promoting the exchange of best practices between trade unions in both countries.

The 60th-anniversary celebration of the Primary Trade Union Organization of UTM employees underscored the essential role of the organization in supporting faculty and staff and its significant contributions to improving working and salary conditions, promoting a fair and safe work environment, supporting the professional development of its members, representing the interests of faculty and staff in dialogues with university management, and organizing social and cultural activities. Over the years, this trade union has become a vital pillar of university life, contributing to a culture of respect, collaboration, and performance at UTM.
This anniversary reaffirmed the importance of solidarity and collaboration in achieving shared objectives and ensuring a just and equitable working environment for all members of the academic community.
