On May 23, 2024, the team responsible for the subprojects “Curriculum Modernization in Information Security, Information Management, Data Science – IMM/DATASEA” and “Curriculum Modernization in Engineering, Electronics, Automation, and Robotics – Industry 4.0/GEAR 4.0” as part of the “Higher Education in Moldova” Project made a working visit to POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest (UPB) in Romania.
The main goal of the visit was to study the design concept and identify solutions for the specialized furniture required for the laboratories being equipped as part of these projects.

During the visit, the team toured several laboratories within the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers. The key objectives included:
- Assessing the potential use of equipment in the educational process: The team analyzed how modern equipment could be integrated into academic activities to enhance the efficiency and quality of education.
- Ensuring accessibility for students and professors: Discussions centered on ways to make the equipment easily accessible and useful for both students and faculty.
- Providing curricular support for integrating new technologies: The team identified the necessary resources and educational materials to effectively integrate the equipment into the curriculum.

Additionally, the UTM team and UPB representatives discussed the organization of hackathons and competitions in collaboration with partner universities in Romania, focusing on Industry 4.0. These initiatives aim to develop students’ practical skills and foster international collaboration between higher education institutions.
On the same day, the UTM delegation, represented by Daniela Pojar, Vice-Rector for Financial Affairs and International Relations and project manager, and Nina Puțuntean, Head of the International Relations Service, met with the equipment manufacturer “Asti Automation” LLC in Bucharest, Romania. Frank Nagorschell, Management & Technology Consultant, and Sabin Stamatescu, Project Engineer, presented the complete equipment catalog and discussed options for integration and customization. They also covered details regarding delivery, installation, and configuration.

“Asti Automation” LLC operates in the field of industrial automation, participating in projects across various sectors such as oil and gas, automotive, food industry, chemical industry, and urban utilities. This working visit marks an important step in the implementation of the World Bank-funded subprojects, with the purpose of modernizing and aligning higher education in Moldova to meet the highest international standards.
This initiative underscores a firm commitment to advancing higher education in Moldova. By providing students with access to modern equipment and cutting-edge technology, it prepares them to meet future challenges across a range of industries.

The “Higher Education in Moldova” Project (PÎSM) is financed by the World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Education and Research from 2020 to 2025. The second round of grants under this project aims to continue modernizing and equipping educational institutions in the country, aligning the educational system with labor market requirements. The total investment is over 10 million euros, benefiting five universities in the country.
