From May 21-24, 2024, the Technical University of Moldova hosted a distinguished delegation from the University of Lorraine, France. The delegation included renowned professors such as François Lucas, teaching biological and agri-food engineering, Emily Perreaux, teaching electrical engineering and industrial informatics, and Elise Antoine from the Central Office of International Relations. This visit marked the beginning of a promising partnership between the two higher education institutions, focused on strengthening academic connections, developing joint projects, and facilitating student and faculty mobility.
The diverse agenda of the French delegation included meetings with key personnel at UTM and visits to various faculties and centers of excellence. The event was done in collaboration with the Embassy of France in the Republic of Moldova and the French Alliance in Moldova.

A highlight of the visit was the meeting with UTM’s leadership. The French delegation had the honor of meeting UTM Rector Prof. Dr. Viorel BOSTAN; Vice-Rector for Financial Affairs and International Relations Daniela POJAR; Dean of the Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dumitru CIORBĂ; and other representatives. The guests were eager to discover the projects within the “Informatics” Francophone Program, as well as tour related facilities such as the ICT Excellence Center Tekwill, FabLab Moldova, and the Micro Lab Engineering Club, where they had the opportunity to interacted with students working on their projects.
Representatives from the University of Lorraine also attended the Embedded Moldova Conference, which exhibited the industrial applications of embedded systems across several sectors, including automotive, medicine, smart homes, IoT, industrial automation, and smart agriculture. The display gave them a comprehensive view of UTM’s efforts in technological innovation and academic advancement.


At the Faculty of Food Technology, the delegation was acquainted with the educational offerings, ongoing research projects, and modern infrastructure of laboratories and mini-bakeries. Engaging with students from “Food Technology” the Francophone Program provided valuable insights into their academic and professional journey. The visit continued with a tour of the Oenology and Chemistry Department and the Micro-winery section, where they discussed professional development avenues in oenology and the importance of chemical disciplines in training specialists for the food industry.


Additionally, the University of Lorraine representatives visited the Green Bio Hub Complex, where they were introduced to innovations in vegetable and fruit growing, agronomy, and forestry. Another focal point of the tour was the Didactic Mini-Cow Farm, where the delegation learned about new technologies for cattle maintenance and health care, as well as research on animal feed and milk quality.


This visit paves the way for new collaboration opportunities between the Technical University of Moldova and the University of Lorraine, France. Strengthening academic ties, developing joint projects, and promoting mobility for both academics and researchers are just some of the promising aspects of this partnership. These efforts will foster innovation and support professional development for students and professionals in various fields.
