Today, the UTM Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications has opened a state-of-the-art Mobile Communications Laboratory, equipped with cutting-edge technology. The laboratory, inaugurated by Moldcell, with technical support from Ericsson, a global leader in network and communication technology, will provide students with hands-on experience in modern mobile technologies.
“In order to advance rapidly in the field of digitalization, Moldova needs, first and foremost, secure and high-performance connectivity,” mentioned Carolina BUGAIAN, CEO of Moldcell. “Together with the Technical University of Moldova, we will create a European future to ensure efficient connectivity with well-trained specialists in this field.”

The rector of UTM, Prof. Viorel BOSTAN, Dr. habil., underscored the strategic significance of industry collaboration: “Partnerships with the business community and related industries are top priorities for the University,” he emphasized. “In engineering, practical skills and exposure to new technologies are vital. We greatly appreciate Moldcell and Ericsson for equipping this laboratory.”

The newly unveiled Mobile Communications Laboratory at FET-UTM features modern apparatus, including:
- 2-3 base network nodes: This unique configuration allows students to interact with physical components and study the functionalities of the base network.
- 1 mobile site supporting 2G/3G/4G technologies (DUS BB + RRU): Students can connect to the equipment to practice local connection and operation with the base station.
- 1 transmission node (SPO family) installed in the same rack and connected to power with the possibility to perform simple operations through the terminal: This allows practical experience with the data transmission equipment commonly used in mobile networks.
- 2 Mini-Link antennas: These antennas are provided for familiarization with different transmission methods.
- 10 laptops donated by the Moldcell Foundation.

“Ericsson is proud to collaborate with Moldcell in this important initiative,” said Victor CRUDU, country manager of Ericsson Moldova. “Digital connectivity can lead to powerful outcomes in education, training, employment, and entrepreneurship. This advanced laboratory will serve as a valuable platform for learning and innovation.”
The event was attended by UTM Rector Viorel BOSTAN, Moldcell CEO Carolina BUGAIAN, Moldcell Foundation Executive Director Irina STRĂJESCU, and Ericsson Country Manager Victor CRUDU.

“Education is the future of any nation, which is why educational projects are fundamental to Moldcell’s mission. At the inauguration of the laboratory, we are donating laptops for the students of the Technical University, so that they can apply their knowledge practically,” stated Irina STRĂJESCU, Executive Director of the Moldcell Foundation.
“The launch of the laboratory originated from the idea to develop both broad-ranging and specialized competences among our students, while also creating opportunities for hiring industry experts and advancing professional growth. Through this mobile communications laboratory, founded by Moldcell, a loyal partner of FET-UTM, alongside Ericsson, our objective was to adjust the curriculum in accordance with the expectations of the ICT field,” declared Lilia SAVA, Dean of the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications.
Overall, Moldcell’s investment in education through initiatives like the Mobile Communications Laboratory at FET-UTM reflects its dedication to supporting Moldova’s educational landscape. The company has a long history of collaboration with universities, providing students with the skills and knowledge they need for success in the digital age.
