The UTM Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications has a new dean – Assoc. Prof., Dr. Lilia SAVA

In the recent meeting of the Senate of the Technical University of Moldova, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Lilia SAVA was elected as the new dean of the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications.

The baton of deanship was passed to Ms. Sava by Prof., Dr. Pavel NISTIRIUC – a true master of the organization of the educational process for the preparation of engineering staff in the field of Telecommunications, who, in turn, was preceded by the previous deans – B. KIRILENKO, the first dean of the Faculty of Radioelectronics, established on the basis of the renowned Faculty of Electrophysics, in the summer of 1987, which was later renamed the Faculty of Radioelectronics and Telecommunications, during the term of dean I. CORNEA (1993-2003); and then the Faculty of Engineering and Management in Electronics and Telecommunications, during the term of dean S. ANDRONIC (2003-2016).

“FET is a faculty with a history of over half a century within the local higher education. Just last year, in October 2022, the University celebrated 55 years since the founding of the Faculty of Electrophysics, the forerunner of the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics (FCIM) and the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications (FET). Delightedly, I assume responsibility for the mission that falls to me in my position as dean”, declared the new dean of FET-UTM, after her election by the senators.

Ms. Sava presented a managerial program, according to which the preparation of engineering personnel should be approached as a 3-dimensional system – technical, socio-educational, and scientific. Thus, in academic terms, the emphasis is placed on ensuring the compatibility of the study programmes with similar programmes in EU countries; the involvement of teaching staff and university students in professional training and mobility projects; and the conclusion of study agreements with European universities, adopting the Double Degree system. Among the main activities for the modernization of the education process, the intention to optimize internships and to establish partnerships with relevant institutions and economic entities stands out. Concerning didactic activity, prominence is given to finalizing the computerized system for recording and monitoring student results, as well as to promoting mobility programs in universities abroad for teaching staff and students. The didactic and scientific activity aims for the development of a solid partnership with students/graduates, including the establishment of the FET alumni association. In order to boost scientific activity, improvement of the efficiency of research centers is expected, including the motivation of students and the amplification of the mobilization of the teaching staff in the research process through strengthening the links between the faculty and the national and international scientific communities. Clear and tangible objectives were outlined regarding the management of the faculty’s patrimony, the management of human resources and financial resources, and the diversification of funding sources, the primary purpose of these prospects being the insurance of a high level of performance in education and scientific research, which responds to the need for intellectual, professional and social development of students – the future ICT specialists.

The plan aims to propel UTM-FET both on the national and international domain. The realization of the plan is supervised by Dr. Lilia SAVA, who, during her time as the head of the Department of Telecommunications and Electronic Systems within FET, brilliantly fulfilled her duties, managing to achieve an impressive list of accomplishments in just 3 years, among which: the conclusion of the Interinstitutional Joint Program Agreement for integrated Master’s degrees, with the acquisition of a Double Degree, with the “Ștefan cel Mare” University of Suceava and the POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest, for the Master’s study programmes: MMRT, SISRC, SCE; the conclusion of an academic mobility agreement with TRANSILVANIA University in Brașov; the establishment of 2 laboratories, in partnership with the company GILAT and IT LAB; the conclusion of multiple collaboration agreements with professional economic agents; the accreditation of the Master’s degree study programmes: MMRT, SISRC, SCE, etc.

Congratulations, dean Lilia SAVA!
