Dinu ŢURCANU on the Digitization in Cahul: Supporting the Digital Transformation of the Moldovan economy is a priority within the EU-Moldova cooperation!

Today, the “Bogdan Petriceicu Haşdeu” State University of Cahul (USCH) hosts an event of utmost importance, which addresses the “Priorities for the digital transformation of Cahul municipality”. While in a delegation at the University of Strasbourg, within a new ERASMUS+ project launched in the consortium “MIC Entrepreneuriat étudiant”, Dinu ŢURCANU, vice-rector of the Technical University of Moldova for Informatization, Partnerships, Institutional Image and Communication, joined the event through Zoom in order to mention the importance of digitizing the regions.

The meeting brought together representatives of national institutions and development partners, the audience being welcomed by Nicolae DANDIȘ, mayor of Cahul; Iurie ȚURCANU, deputy prime minister for Digitization; Boris FILIPOV, project manager, EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova; Catarina NILSSON, program manager, Swedish Embassy in Moldova; Ana CHIRIȚA, director of strategic projects, ATIC | EU4 Moldova: Startup City Cahul; Alexandru PELIVAN, project manager, EU4MOLDOVA: Focal regions Program.

The priorities of Cahul’s digitization were presented by Stella BĂDIN, Cahul’s deputy mayor responsible for digitization. Victor GUZUN, digitization consultant, pointed out the results of mapping the target groups in Cahul and presented some solutions proposed for implementation.

The role of the EU4Innovation Center (Startup City Cahul) in the implementation of innovations and digital tools was presented by Corina ANDRONIC, Startup City Cahul.

Within the panel “National initiatives and actions that can be integrated within the activity of APL Cahul. Analysis of the proposed solutions from the perspective of applicability, actions necessary for implementation, implementation risks, necessary resources, terms, etc.”, several speakers delivered speeches on the subject: Zinaida BEZVERHNII, Secretary of State, Ministry of Health; Mircea EȘANU, director, Public Services Agency; Roman COJUHARI, director, Poșta Moldovei; Olga TUMURUC, director, Electronic Governance Agency (AGE); Startup City Cahul team, development partners.

“When we mention the field of ICT, we must point out that IT is, first and foremost, the people who have skills in the field. This leads to the conclusion that if we want to develop this sector, and if we want to digitize the Cahul region, we need a synergy between the authorities and academia. We need to maximize the number of people with the necessary skills. With the help of “EU4Moldova: Startup City Cahul”, the region will become an innovative entrepreneurial community! As this project is implemented by ATIC, I can confidently declare that, wherever Ana Chiriţă and her team are involved, entrepreneurship education will be accessible to all: to pupils – at school, during the optional classes within “Tekwill in every school”; to students – at the university within the “Startup Academy in universities”; to professionals and non-IT – within the courses “Startup Academy for Entrepreneurs”, etc. Through this project, I am sure that we will manage to prevent the young ones from leaving their home by providing them the necessary skills and well-paid jobs, bringing them together in friendly communities through creating a balanced system, with a culture of startups and teamwork. It is also important to improve the capability and performance of the State University “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” in Cahul, so it will gradually attract large local and foreign investors for the region”, said the vice-rector of TUM, Dinu ȚURCANU, while explaining the importance of digitizing the regions.

Also, the vice-rector mentioned: “I am honored that, within this project, the Technical University of Moldova comes with best practices and digitization of information systems for USCH, training courses for IT teachers within university programs, support in the process of updating the curricula and study programs, implementation of joint projects. At this stage, we are already making progress towards our goal, and this is just the beginning. I am sure that the Cahul region will become an example for other regions in Moldova, because today, more than ever, all stakeholders, especially the representatives of the central authorities, understand well the importance of developing the IT sector not only in the capital, but also in the regions. They support Digitization and consider that the establishment of the position of deputy prime minister for Digitization requires a considerable effort and a great amount of support! Supporting the digital transformation of the Moldovan economy is one of the key priorities of the EU-Moldova cooperation!”
