Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) profiles provide researchers with the opportunity to make their contributions transparent and to improve the ethical standards of research and publication of scientific results. For researchers who collaborate with different institutions and are involved in international projects it is absolutely necessary to be identified via ORCID.

Implementing unique and persistent identifiers globally is one of the most important concepts for the development of Open Science. Accurate identification of researchers and their scientific output is also important in the interest of all parties involved in research: publishers, funders, affiliated institutions, universities, research evaluators, librarians and other stakeholders.

Academic libraries support university scientific research by acquiring relevant information sources, but also by developing modern services for the changing scientific environment.

Thus, the basic objective of the eight webinars organized by the Technical-Scientific Library of TUM is to provide informational assistance to TUM researchers in order to know the tools that contribute to increasing the visibility of research internationally.

The events were organized with the support of the Erasmus+ project “MINERVA – Strengthening Research Management and Open Science Capacities of HEIs in Moldova and Armenia” (Ref. nr.: 597912-EPP-1-2018-1-MD-EPPKA2-CBHE-SP). The webinars addressed 2 specific topics, namely:

  1. Creating and using the ORCID profile to manage the identity of the researcher:

    ⚞ORCID identification system;

    ⚞Visibility preferences of the elements in the ORCID record;

    ⚞Permissions that you can grant to organizations and/or trusted people;

    ⚞Setting up the ORCID registration;

    ⚞Meta data for the description of the works;

    ⚞Importing metadata of publications from other systems.

  2. Google Scholar in aid of scientific researchers:

    ⚞Advantages of using Google Scholar;

    ⚞Creating and managing the Google Scholar profile (Google Citations Profile);

    ⚞Scientometric indicators used in Google Scholar;

    ⚞Search Google Scholar Strategies.

BTȘ will hold similar webinars in December, to which researchers who have failed to attend previous sessions are invited. The researchers are asked to register via the Registration Form.

The dates for the webinars, as well as the access links, will be sent to the e-mail indicated in the registration form.

BTȘ aims to organize other webinars, about which the academic community will be informed through the corporate information system.

BTȘ also offers advice to ORCID and Google Scholar profile holders, who face certain problems in their management. To benefit from consultancy, please contact the Electronic Resources Service, bl. 3-103 or write to [email protected].

The Minerva project “Strengthening the Research and Open Science Management Capacities of Higher Education Institutions in the Republic of Moldova and Armenia”, n/r 597912-EPP-1-2018-1-MD-EPPKA2-CBHE-SP, is implemented with the financial support of EU, through the Erasmus+ program.
