Students of the “Vasile Alecsandri” Theoretical High School – visiting TUM

The highschool students from the “Vasile Alecsandri” Theoretical High School in Chișinău, accompanied by their Physics teacher, Marina ȚURCAN, paid a visit to the Technical University of Moldova. The visitors were guided by Mr. Radu MELNIC, director of the Career Counseling and Guidance Center (CCOC) of TUM.

After receiving an overview of the faculties and study programs within the Technical University of Moldova, the high school students expressed their interest in exploring the most popular faculty of TUM – the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics. Together with the vice-deans, the heads of programs and several professors, the dean of FCIM, assoc. prof., Dr. Dumitru CIORBĂ, organized a tour within the subdivisions of the Faculty.

The high school students showed an increased fascination with the field of Physics, implicitly the Physics Department, led by the assoc. prof., Dr. Constantin PÂRȚAC, who introduced the students to the subdivision focused on one of the fundamental disciplines of TUM. Mr. PÂRȚAC presented the installations used within the Physics laboratory courses, explained and demonstrated the use of information technologies in Physics experiments, conducted both in schools and at the university. The idea of using computer-based measuring devices allows the acquisition and transfer of data to the computer, where, with the help of specially developed software, it is processed for the further calculation of values of physical quantities and their standard errors, and the building of dependency graphs. Mr. PÂRȚAC also explained and demonstrated the phenomenon of laser diffraction from an obstacle of comparable size to the wavelength of light, as well as the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction using an installation called “Magnetic Parachute”.

At the Department of Computer Science and Systems Engineering, led by assoc. prof., Dr. Viorica SUDACEVSCHI, the students discovered the study programs Computers and Networks, Applied Informatics, Information Management, Robotics and Mechatronics. Assoc. prof., Dr. Ion FIODOROV presented the Department of Software Engineering and Automatics, as well as its study programs: Automatics and Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Security and Information Technology. The high schoolers also had the opportunity to meet the most famous scientist in the Republic of Moldova – univ. prof., Dr. Oleg LUPAN, who manages the Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering. The scientist spoke about the study programs within the department: Applied Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, Microelectronics and Nanotechnology – which are of great importance both for scientific research and within our daily lives.

The high school students were also curious to see the laboratories of the Faculty of Food Technology, renowned for the Master Classes conducted here by specialists from all around the world. The dean of the faculty, assoc. prof., Dr. Iurie SUBOTIN, guided them through the laboratories of chemistry and winemaking.

It was a busy day for the students of the “Vasile Alecsandri” Theoretical High School in Chișinău. It is always one of the priorities of the Technical University of Moldova and its professors to satisfy the curiosity and interest of young students and guide them in choosing an academic path.
