In the midst of the Admission period, the Technical University of Moldova comes with the success story of one of its most deserving representatives, as to motivate the young people who would like to pursue a prosperous career in engineering. Dinu ȚURCANU tells us about his experience at TUM in the hope that it would inspire those who want to build a career in the field of modern engineering – electronics, telecommunications, information technology, cybersecurity and other ICT branches.

In 1997, he applied to the Faculty of Radioelectronics and Telecommunications (currently Electronics and Telecommunications) of the Technical University of Moldova. In 2002, he became a graduate of the study program “Telecommunications Engineering and Management”, after which he pursued the Master’s program “Maintenance and Management of Telecommunications Networks”. Later, Dinu Țurcanu began building his professional career in private companies related to Information Technology and Electronic Communications, working in the field of Data and Voice Transport and contributing to the development a multifunctional communications network for transporting data throughout the country.

He continued his professional growth at TUM, where he worked as a lecturer between 2002-2018 within the Department of Telecommunications and Electronic Systems, FET, and the Department of Software Engineering and Automation, FCIM; during 2016-2018, he became head of the Information and Communications Technology Department, and from 2018 on, he was assigned the position of vice-rector for Computerization, Partnerships, Institutional Image and Communication. Mr. Țurcanu has always collaborated with various institutions in the Information Technology and Cyber Security domain, working as a national expert in various fields of the IT sector, but also as an international expert on projects relevant to the field of Networking and Information Security, managing to build and capitalize on the collaborations of these companies and institutions with Alma Mater.

During the management of the ICT Directorate, he contributed to the establishment of numerous facilities by use of IT resources, thus manifesting his constant interest in the utilization of modern methods for a successful educational process: the implementation of Office 365 for Education, the instructing of university teachers via authorized courses of the Cisco NetAcad program, as well as the attainment of the corporate wireless network in the administrative body. Mr. Țurcanu participated in multiple negotiations and discussions, singing important donation contracts, through which the Technical University of Moldova received an impressive batch of technology and IT equipment (Schneider Electric group, BC Victoriabank SA, BC Moldova-Agroindbank SA), concluding a loan agreement with the National Association of ICT Companies (ATIC) and acquiring Apple MAC computers for the new PBL (Problem Based Learning) classrooms, inaugurated at TUM. With his support, Bitdefender, the largest Romanian manufacturer of software and NEC Corporation, has invested in equipping a cybersecurity laboratory. As a result of the partnership with Allied Testing in Chisinau, TUM students and teachers can utilize Microsoft Corporation’s “Microsoft Image” program, which includes access to a wide range of modern development tools, software products, and free licensed Microsoft services. Recently, Mr. Țurcanu initiated a partnership with one of the most important networks of testing centers around the world: PEARSON VUE (Virtual University Enterprises), used by major suppliers in the IT field: Oracle, Cisco, Microsoft, Zend, Juniper, Adobe, CompTIA, etc. The network provides over 300 certified exams not only in the IT field, but also in finance, medicine, military, etc. Dinu Țurcanu considers personal development to be essential for one’s career growth, an international certification being of major influence in the professional advancement of a specialist. The TUM administration took all the necessary steps to offer all those who want to expand their skills at a national level, providing the opportunity to obtain a professional certification, valid anywhere in the world.

International certifications are one of TUM’s great assets provided for the young people who want to obtain knowledge and skills for a promising career. In this regard, the vice-rector Dinu Țurcanu is, himself, a holder of the most prestigious international certifications in the ICT field: Cisco Systems – CCENT, CCNA Routing & Switching, CCNA Data Center, CCDA, CCNA Security, CCNP, CCDP, CCNP Security, CCNP Collaboration, Cisco Certified Academy Instructor; Hewlett Packard – Accredited Integration Specialist, Accredited Solutions Expert, Accredited Systems Engineer, Accredited Technical Professional, Master Accredited Solutions Expert; Microsoft – „Microsoft Certified Professional” şi „Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate: Office 365”.

“We are the only university that has changed all programs and curricula for all faculties. All classes were discussed with business people and specialized institutions, because we set ourselves the goal of training qualified specialists for the labor market. Moreover, for our future students, we have introduced classes that will involve international certification courses, so that our graduates will be more and more demanded for their skills”, declared the vice-rector of TUM, Dinu Țurcanu.
