Yesterday, March 30, 2021, the Senate of the Technical University of Moldova conducted an online meeting for the annual report on the activity of TUM, carried out by the Rector Dr. Viorel BOSTAN the sixth year in a row, since his election in November 2015.
“It was a year full of challenges and trials,” mentioned the Rector in his appreciation message for the academics of UTM, who contributed to the realization of the objectives and projects planned for 2020, despite the health crisis imposed by the pandemic.
With the involvement and support of the administration, the study process remained consistent even under the current circumstances, starting from the online Admission campaign, which included the preparation courses for the BAC exams, the organization of the Technical Olympiad, and the submission of documents to the Admission contest. The candidates were guided through each step by the representatives of CEGHID and the Admissions Commission, concluding with the subsequent results: 2487 students enrolled in the Bachelor cycle and another 671 – in the Master cycle.
Academically, the year 2020 has proven to be productive: the TUM professors published 13 monographs, 106 publications in A, B+, B and C national journals, and 80 in other journals, 96 articles in collections of conferences and 85 articles in collections of theses, 30 patent applications and 8 patents obtained, the total volume of full-text publications in the TUM Institutional Repository reaching 11955. Additionally, the extraordinary visibility of the research works of TUM in the most prestigious bibliographic and scientometric databases in the world – SCOPUS and WEB OF SCIENCE, with 19478 citations (with Hirsch index 67) and 17221 citations (with H-index 65) of UTM representatives in the former and the latter. TUM has also managed to hold the first position at a national level in the WEBOMETRICS: RANKING WEB OF REPOSITORIES – TRANSPARENT RANKING: Institutional Repositories by Google Scholar. Apart from that, professor and scientist in solid-state physics, microelectronics and nanotechnology, Oleg Lupan, Head of the Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics, has exceeded the threshold of 11,000 citations of scientific publications, according to the platform Google Scholar Citations. An absolute record!
Rightly, innovation, creation, and active personal involvement are the main points that contribute to the continuous progress of TUM. After the presentation of the report, about 70% of senators voted for the rating VERY GOOD, given to the activity and the annual report of the Rector for 2020.
