The Technical University of Moldova holds the leading position among the universities of the Republic of Moldova, according to the latest report (Universities: January 2021 Edition 2021.1.0 beta: http://webometrics.info/en/Europe/Moldova%2C%20Republic%20of) published by Ranking Web of Universities (Webometrics) on January 27, 2021, a ranking that currently includes over 31,000 universities worldwide, including higher education institutions in the Republic of Moldova.
According to the Webometrics report, UTM ranks first in the Republic of Moldova, 261st – in Central and Eastern Europe, 1081st – in Europe and 3392rd in the world.
The current ranking was generated in accordance with new rules: the Presence indicator was excluded (which involved online presence, with a weight of 5%, directly proportional to the size (number of pages) of the main web domain of the institution), and the current indicators taken into account by Webometrics remained:
50% – Visibility – number of external networks linking to the institution’s webpages, measured with Ahrefs and Majestic;
10% – Transparency – number of citations registered by the authors of the institution on the Google Scholar platform;
40% – Excellence – number of papers amongst the top 10% most cited in each of the 26 disciplines of the database (Scimago). Data for the five year period: 2015-2019
The transparency parameter remained unchanged and is calculated similarly to the previous ranking of July 2020: the calculation methodology is based on collecting citations from the top 210 public profiles of each university, allowing size independent comparisons, with subsequent exclusion of the top 20 profiles of the list in order to improve representativeness. For the other 190 profiles per university, the number of citations is added up, and the institutions are ranked in descending order of its indicator.
We remind you that, in the ranking of January 2020, but also July 2020, UTM also registered an exceptional result, occupying a leading position nationally among the universities of the Republic of Moldova. These results are the outcome of the consolidated effort made over the last years by the academic community of the University, according to the Institutional Development Strategy consistently promoted by the rector of UTM, prof. Viorel BOSTAN.
Indubitably, the UTM community has to keep working and strive for higher results of the ranking indicators, thus obtaining TOP positions in the international ranking.
Webometrics is a ranking developed by Cybermetrics Lab, a research group within the Higher Council for Scientific Research in Spain, since 2004. The ranking is based on publicly available web data, the results being made public in January and July, every year.
