The Technical University of Moldova ranks first in the top of the best institutions of higher education in the Republic of Moldova.

According to the latest report published by Webometrics on January 28th, 2020, the Technical University of Moldova is a leader among the higher education institutions of the Republic of Moldova. The report analyzed over 28,000 universities around the world, including those from the Republic of Moldova.

According to the report, UTM ranks first among the higher education institutions in our country, 154th among those in Central and Eastern Europe, 838th among those from all over Europe and 2960th in the world.

Invited to the Sputnik Moldova studio, the vice-rector of UTM, Dinu Țurcanu, mentioned that this result was obtained through the consolidated effort made during the last years by the academic community of the University and is a good indicator for the whole institution.

“An international ranking does not say everything about the university and cannot be considered an essential one. But one important thing for us is that it shows we’re on the right direction of development of the university. It is a glimmer of hope for the future that what we do is good. We are on the right path.” said the vice-rector of UTM.

According to Dinu Țurcanu, Webometrics took into account several indicators when making the ranking:

  • the total number of external links received by the university’s web domain from third parties;
  • position in search engines and global visibility on the Internet;
  • the total number of documents published on dedicated sites, as well as the quality of scientific articles published in high impact international journals, which are in the first 10% most cited in a particular field.

Comparing the data presented in July 2019 by Webometrics, UTM climbed in the ranking from position 3344 to 2960 in the world.

Webometrics is a top created by Cybermetrics Lab – a research group within the Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research since 2004.
