The Technical University of Moldova once again hosted a well-established and highly anticipated event – the 2025 edition of European Researchers’ Night, a celebration of science, technology, and innovation held in an interactive setting open to knowledge enthusiasts of all ages.
On September 26, UTM’s Technical Museum Park transformed into a true open-air laboratory. Hundreds of families with children, students, teachers, curious visitors, and science enthusiasts took part in the event, enjoying live experiments, spectacular demonstrations, and engaging discussions with university students and researchers. Each faculty at UTM showcased their most recent research projects, innovative technologies, and practical applications, turning science into something tangible and accessible.
Alongside UTM’s leadership, special guests included Mr. Ionel Sanduleac, a representative of the Ministry of Education and Research, and Mr. Veaceslav Ursachi, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
Both Mr. Sanduleac and Mr. Ursachi expressed their admiration for the enthusiasm of UTM’s researchers, the high caliber of the projects presented, and the strong interest shown by the general public—especially by young people—in science and innovation. Their presence signified a recognition of UTM’s ongoing efforts to promote applied research and high-quality education.
UTM’s Vice-Rector for Research, Professor Vasile Tronciu, emphasized: “Research is constantly evolving and progressing at an unprecedented pace. It is crucial that we invest in youth, in innovative ideas, and in interdisciplinary collaboration. UTM continues to be a center of excellence in research and a driving force for change through science.”
The evening buzzed with excitement and curiosity—dozens of booths, modern equipment, robots, drones, physical experiments, virtual reality installations, and more created a full scientific adventure for the public. Children especially enjoyed visiting UTM’s Planetarium, engaging in creative workshops, interactive competitions, and demonstrations that sparked their curiosity to explore the world through the eyes of a researcher.
A highlight of the evening was presented by the Faculty of Design, which energized the crowd with a spectacular fashion show. Young designers took to the runway with innovative creations that integrated sustainability, embedded technology, and futuristic concepts. The show was warmly received and added a creative and artistic dimension to the research-focused event.
UTM’s faculties once again proved that research and technology are not just academic fields, but the future. Currently, UTM’s research activity is carried out through three institutes and eleven faculty research centers, implementing twelve state-funded programs and eighty projects financed by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANCD). In practice, each faculty has at least one active research center and at least one successfully funded project.
It is worth noting that, at the beginning of 2024, the Ministry of Education and Research increased researchers’ salaries by 20%—a gesture recognizing their efforts and the impact they have on societal development. Additionally, through ANCD, the UTM research community gained access to numerous funding sources: excellence projects, innovation, technology transfer, and bilateral collaborations with Romania, Germany, Turkey, and other partner countries.
