For the first time in its more than three-decade history, Agronomiada—the most important student competition in the agronomic field, combining academic, scientific, and sports components—crossed the Prut River and was hosted by the Republic of Moldova. The 35th edition of the event took place from May 22 to 25, 2025, for the first time in Chișinău, under the auspices of the Technical University of Moldova (UTM), marking a milestone in Romanian-Moldovan academic cooperation in the field of agricultural sciences.
This edition became a reality thanks to the direct involvement of the Rector of the Technical University of Moldova, Professor Viorel Bostan, who consistently supports the development of academic partnerships and the promotion of excellence in higher education. With his support, Agronomiada 2025 was organized in Chișinău for the first time, in a large-scale anniversary edition.
“We have been participating in Agronomiada since 2004, and ever since the State Agrarian University of Moldova became part of the Technical University of Moldova, our presence has grown broader and, I believe, stronger. Last year, we were asked whether we would consider organizing Agronomiada in Chișinău. We thought it was an excellent idea, especially for an anniversary edition. Today, we are hosting over 400 students, faculty members, and university administrators from all across Romania, and I am convinced that in the coming days, the partnerships we already have with these respected universities will become even stronger. Our academic communities will connect, students will get to know one another, and we will expand mobility programs, research projects, faculty exchanges, and propose joint projects for external funding,” said Rector Bostan in an interview.

The logistical and academic coordination of this large-scale event was expertly managed by Dr. Daniela Pojar, Vice-Rector for Finance and International Relations, whose active involvement and dedication were key to the success of this edition.
“It is a special honor to host the 35th edition of Agronomiada, an event with tradition and prestige in the academic agronomic space. Organizing this competition for the first time in Chișinău is not only a logistical achievement but also an important step in strengthening academic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Romania,” noted Vice-Rector Pojar.
Over the course of four days, the UTM campus was transformed into a true center of agronomic excellence, bringing together over 450 participants—students and faculty—from some of the most important agricultural universities: the “Ion Ionescu de la Brad” University of Life Sciences in Iași, the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Cluj-Napoca, the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest, the “King Michael I” University of Life Sciences in Timișoara, the University of Craiova, and the Technical University of Moldova.
During the event, participants competed in 19 academic contests in areas such as crop science, soil science, agronomy, and geodetic engineering, as well as in five sporting events that highlighted teamwork, fair play, and youthful energy.
The results reflected not only individual effort but also team collaboration.

At the opening ceremony of the professional, scientific, and sporting competition Agronomiada 2025, the Technical University of Moldova was invited to join the Agronomic and Veterinary Medicine University Consortium at the initiative of Sorin Mihai Cîmpeanu, President of the National Council of Rectors in Romania and Rector of the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest. This represents official recognition of UTM as a trusted partner in the regional agronomic academic community.
The 35th edition of Agronomiada, held for the first time in Chișinău, was more than just a competition. It marked an important step in strengthening academic cooperation and excellence in agronomy between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, contributing to the building of an academic network united by shared values and professional goals. Through this edition, the Technical University of Moldova and its partners demonstrated that collaboration, innovation, and commitment can build lasting bridges toward a sustainable and prosperous agricultural future.
