On April 5, 2025, the Technical University of Moldova opened its doors wide for young people eager to discover what modern engineering is all about. The UTM Doors Open Day turned into a true festival of knowledge, innovation, and opportunities for future engineers, bringing together around 840 students from all over the country – Chișinău, Criuleni, Ialoveni, Anenii Noi, Ungheni, Briceni, Șoldănești, Ocnița, Drochia, Călărași, Orhei, Telenești, Căușeni, Ștefan Vodă, Hâncești, Vulcănești, Comrat, Tiraspol, Rezina, Bender, Dubăsari – as well as from cities like Galați, Odesa, and Kyiv. This clearly shows that UTM is attracting talent beyond national borders, strengthening its reputation as a center of educational excellence.
The young explorers were warmly welcomed by UTM’s rector, Professor Viorel BOSTAN, PhD, who emphasized the university’s commitment to providing high-quality education tailored to the demands of the modern labor market, highlighting especially the importance of creativity, critical thinking, and adaptability in a world where technology and professions are evolving rapidly.
Later, the team from the Career Counseling and Guidance Center, led by Radu MELNIC and Natalia ȘESTENCO, gave them a panoramic view of the university’s 11 faculties, as well as the opportunities offered through the Republican Technical Olympiad and other extracurricular activities organized during this major annual event. Most students had already registered online and were guided by CCOC representatives Sandu GORIȚA and Antonela LENCAUȚEANU to the faculties they were interested in, where they took part in guided tours, workshops, experiments, and motivational discussions with professors and students.
At the Faculty of Agricultural, Forestry, and Environmental Sciences (FȘASM), visitors were invited by Dean Sergiu POPA, PhD, to explore modern laboratories, experimental greenhouses, and student innovation projects. They participated in hands-on workshops, thematic exhibitions, and direct discussions with professors, researchers, and alumni, discovering professional pathways and career opportunities. One of the highlights was the AgroTekArena project presentation by student Serafim GLUTNIC, showcasing the role of modern technology in agriculture.
At the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FMV), students had the opportunity to explore the world of veterinary science by visiting laboratories and meeting professors and students. Dean Mihai MOROZ, PhD, along with faculty members, presented the opportunities available, emphasizing the friendly and dedicated academic community.
At the Faculty of Food Technology (FTA), students were greeted by Dean Iurie SUBOTIN, PhD, and Vice Dean Raisa DRUȚĂ, and invited to join interactive workshops like “Sweet or Healthy? Discover the Truth About Sugar!” and “Balanced Plate: The Art of Healthy Eating.” They learned about study programs and the importance of a balanced diet, debunking common myths about nutrition.
Dean Rafael CILOCI, PhD, welcomed visitors to the Faculty of Economic Engineering and Business (FIEB), inviting them to explore the opportunities offered by economics programs. Current students showcased scientific projects and posters related to their future professions, captivating their audience with topics in business, finance, marketing, and accounting.
Students had an equally engaging experience visiting the Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics (FCIM), where they were greeted warmly by Dean Dumitru CIORBĂ, PhD, and a team of professors. He spoke passionately about the faculty’s achievements, research projects, student competitions, and the career paths of graduates. Visitors explored the modern labs and saw how technology is used in education, from robotics and artificial intelligence to programming and cybersecurity – every corner of FCIM breathes innovation and professionalism.
Open Doors Day at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning (FUA) was a resounding success, offering a rich and interactive program. Greeted by Vice Dean Diana ANDRONOVICI, students explored exhibitions on study programs, attended information sessions about the 2025 academic offer, and were inspired by speeches from Professor Lino BIANCO of the University of Malta and FUA alumni with successful careers. They also participated in creative workshops on design, 3D modeling, and floral art, exploring the modern spaces of the faculty.
At the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications (FET), led by Dean Lilia SAVA, PhD, visitors explored modern labs, attended interactive presentations, and discussed directly with students and professors. They learned about the faculty’s programs, career opportunities, and strong ties with industry, seeing firsthand the crucial role electronics and telecommunications play in modern society.
The Faculty of Energy and Electrical Engineering (FEIE), led by Dean Dumitru BRAGA, PhD, introduced students to study programs focused on energy and electrical technologies. Visitors toured state-of-the-art labs and discussed innovations in the energy sector with professors, understanding the importance of this field for sustainable development.
At the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Geodesy, and Cadastre (FCGC), guided by Vice Dean Ion ALBU, PhD, students discovered programs in civil engineering, geodesy, and cadastre. They visited advanced laboratories, watched topographic measurement demonstrations, and discussed real-world projects in sustainable construction and modern infrastructure. FCGC showcased the professionalism of its staff and the practical, hands-on approach of its studies.
The Faculty of Mechanical, Industrial, and Transport Engineering (FIMIT), led by Dean Sergiu DÎNTU, PhD, welcomed students with enthusiasm and exciting demonstrations. They presented student-built robots, 3D printers, simulators, and technical equipment. Visitors interacted with smart machines and learned how mechanical engineering is applied in industries, transport, and logistics, feeling the dynamic and innovative atmosphere of the faculty.
Finally, the Faculty of Design (FD) captivated everyone with a spectacular exhibition of fashion design, graphic design, and interdisciplinary projects. Under the guidance of Dean Sergiu TRONCIU, PhD, and faculty staff, students showcased original creations that blended aesthetics with functionality and technology. Young art and design enthusiasts took part in hands-on workshops on sewing, digital drawing, and 3D modeling, experiencing firsthand a faculty where creativity rules.
The UTM Doors Open Day was more than just a visit – it was a revealing experience that highlighted the innovative spirit, openness, and professionalism of all 11 faculties. Through an extensive tour, students discovered not only educational opportunities but also passionate people, cutting-edge equipment, and, most importantly, the chance to build a strong future right here at home.
With modern labs, international partnerships, applied research projects, and a united academic community, the Technical University of Moldova remains a benchmark of excellence in technical higher education. This event once again showed that UTM is the place where dreams take shape and passions become professions.
