Prof., Dr. habil. Oleg LUPAN, head of the Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering within the UTM Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics, and Dr. habil. Valentin OLEȘCIUC, principal research scientist at the Institute of Power Engineering (affiliated to the Technical University of Moldova in 2022), together with two other fellow representatives of the Republic of Moldova, were included in the Top 2% world ranking of scientists.
Currently, the total number of world scientists who have at least 5 publications registered in international databases exceeds 9 million. In order to ensure an objective assessment of the contribution of each of them, at the end of each year (since 2020), a working group from Stanford University publishes the “Top 2%” of researchers from the 176 fundamental scientific fields, which fall within the 22 largest scientific clusters – Physics, Astronomy, Technical Sciences, etc. The rating is developed according to data from the international database of scientific publications and their citation level.
During the 3 years of development of the respective rating, 4 scholars from the Republic of Moldova entered the global Top 2%:
– Prof., Dr. habil. Oleg LUPAN, Technical University of Moldova, laureate of the National Award, 2018 edition – included in the Top 2% of scientists in the Physics and Astronomy cluster, Applied Physics/Nanotechnologies sections;
– Dr. habil. of Technical Sciences, Valentin OLEȘCIUC, principal research scientist at the Institute of Power Engineering (affiliated to the Technical University of Moldova in 2022), laureate of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Award in Engineering Sciences, 2021 edition – included in the Top 2% of scientists in the Technical Sciences cluster, Electrical & Electronic Engineering/Energy sections;
– Prof., Dr. habil. Ghenadii KOROTCENKOV, USM, laureate of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Award, 2019 edition, laureate of the National Prize, 2022 edition – included in the top 2% of scientists in the Physics and Astronomy cluster, the Applied Physics/Analytical Chemistry sections;
– Dr. habil. Denis NICA, USM, laureate of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Award for young researchers, 2010 and 2013 editions, laureate of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Award in Physics, 2016 edition – included in the top 2% of scientists in the Physics and Astronomy cluster, Applied Physics/Nanotechnologies sections.
Each researcher from the above-mentioned top made a significant contribution both to the development of their field of expertise and to the promotion of the image of the Republic of Moldova in the world, including through extensive international cooperation in the international technical-scientific field.
