“Study in Moldova!” – A New Impulse for the Future of University Education

The Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova has launched the national campaign “Study in Moldova!”, an ambitious initiative aimed at encouraging more young people to continue their studies at home.

The Minister of Education and Research, Dan Perciun, emphasized the impressive progress of the higher education system in Moldova:

“In recent years, the university education system has undergone significant changes, and now we can say with certainty that we have something to offer graduates. Last year we had a record number of admissions, and for this year, we aim for six out of ten graduates to choose a university in the country.”

Minister Perciun announced an investment of over 350 million lei in modernizing university infrastructure, with an additional 248 million lei already directed towards renovating dormitories and equipping laboratories.

Viorel Bostan: “Stereotypes about studying abroad are no longer valid!”

The Rector of the Technical University of Moldova, Prof. Univ. Dr. Hab. Viorel Bostan, refuted the idea that “only universities abroad can offer quality education”:

“This perception may have made sense 10-15 years ago, but today, the Technical University of Moldova and many other higher education institutions in Moldova have made a huge qualitative leap, offering quality studies and excellent employment opportunities here, at home, or the possibility to continue studies abroad. World Bank-funded projects have enabled the development of academic infrastructure, and UTM actively collaborates with prestigious institutions in Europe. Thus, our graduates have access to state-of-the-art technologies, advanced research opportunities, and strong international partnerships. We will continue this direction with major funding in the near future.”

All universities have benefited from the “Higher Education in Moldova” project, implemented by the Ministry of Education and Research and funded by the World Bank, a project that will continue to expand in the coming period. At the Technical University of Moldova, for example, an investment of 5 million euros has transformed laboratories, study spaces, and academic programs in fields such as arts, design, and agricultural engineering.

We welcome the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Research, which, through the “Study in Moldova!” campaign, contributes to changing mindsets and promoting an obvious reality: universities in Moldova are ready to offer young people the education they need for a successful future.

In recent years, universities in Moldova have introduced 30 new specialties in the Bachelor’s degree cycle, including future professions such as Animation, Game Design, and Multimedia, Artificial Intelligence, as well as interdisciplinary specialties like Data Science, Econometrics, Phytobiotechnologies, and more.

Rector of higher education institutions say that the trend is clear: more and more young people are choosing to continue their studies at home, due to the following factors:

  • Moldovan universities are institutionally accredited by the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS).
  • The number of students has increased significantly: last year, 16,009 young people were enrolled in the Bachelor’s degree cycle, 1,333 more than in 2023.
  • The education field is increasingly attractive, with 1,753 more students than the previous year.

How will graduates be convinced to stay at home? The “Study in Moldova!” campaign will last for three months and include various activities, many of which have already been traditionally organized by UTM every year:

  • Open Days – students will be able to visit university campuses and interact directly with professors and students.
  • Visits to high schools and colleges – university representatives will present educational offers and existing opportunities.
  • Educational fairs – organized in district centers to reach as many young people as possible from various regions of the country.

The “Study in Moldova!” campaign marks a crucial moment for the future of higher education in the Republic of Moldova. With substantial investments, international recognition, and strong support from the authorities, universities in the Republic of Moldova are becoming an increasingly attractive option for young people who want to build their future at home.

For young people who choose to study in Moldova, the future is not just a promise, but a rapidly expanding reality!
