On November 26, 2024, the Technical University of Moldova had the privilege of welcoming a distinguished delegation from the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies (USUST) in Dnipro, Ukraine. Led by USUST Rector Prof. Dr. Kostiantyn Mykhailovych Sukhyi, a member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the delegation’s visit aimed to explore and strengthen the academic and scientific relations between the two renowned institutions.
The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Dr. Vasile Tronciu, UTM’s Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies. The guests expressed their appreciation for the impressive potential of the Technical University of Moldova, highlighting its 11 faculties, 3 research institutes, and 12 centers of excellence, which position UTM as a key pillar of engineering education in the Republic of Moldova.
In his speech, Vice-Rector Vasile TRONCIU brought attention to the great potential of the partnership with the University of Dnipro, emphasizing the mutual benefits in areas such as academic exchanges, joint research and innovation projects, and the development of strategic partnerships with the industrial sector.
Accompanied by the Vice-Rector for Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Iurii Serhiiovych PROIDAK, and Prof. Dr. Irina SUKHYI, Rector Kostiantyn Mykhailovych SUKHYI provided an overview of the status of the University of Dnipro – a leading multidisciplinary institution in Ukraine, with nearly 15,000 students and over 1,000 academic and scientific staff. He highlighted the university’s position in international rankings: 5th in the Dnipropetrovsk region, according to the Scopus database, and 15th in national competitions for scientific projects.
The dialogue was further enriched by the participation of prominent industry leaders, including Oleg BRAGA, General Director of SA “Moldovahidromaș,” and Serghei KORNEV, General Director of the Ribnita Metallurgical Plant. Their discussions centered on identifying opportunities for collaboration in three key areas:
- Joint research and innovation projects
- Academic exchanges and sharing best practices
- Developing strategic partnerships between universities and industry
The meeting’s symbolic theme, “A Better Future Through Cohesion,” perfectly captured the spirit of collaboration. Representatives from both institutions expressed their shared belief that this robust partnership would pave the way for new opportunities, empowering students and researchers to explore cutting-edge advancements in education and research.
The visit reaffirmed the mutual commitment of UTM and USUST to build a strong connection between Moldova and Ukraine, fostering sustainable regional development through excellence in education, research, and innovation.
