A New Research and Learning Space for Students Has Been Inaugurated at UTM

The Technical University of Moldova recently launched a significant project aimed at enhancing the educational experience of its students. The Reading Room of the Scientific Library branch has been modernized to become a center of excellence for research and learning, specifically designed for students from the Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics and the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications. This initiative is the result of a strategic partnership between UTM, led by Rector Viorel Bostan, and SlovakAid—the Slovak Agency for International Development Cooperation. The project is being implemented by EMA—the European Migration Agency (Slovakia)—in collaboration with the Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics, under the guidance of Dean Associate Professor Dr. Dumitru Ciorbă.

The project has revitalized the Reading Room into a contemporary hub for research, learning, and academic interaction. This transformation creates an inviting environment where students can thrive academically and professionally, fostering the growth of the university community and raising the overall quality of education. The space now serves as a resource center, actively supporting the academic pursuits of both students and faculty by providing a venue for collaboration, interaction, and the development of innovative projects. With its advanced technological infrastructure, including videoconferencing capabilities, the newly modernized area is set to enhance the delivery of online courses and conferences. This state-of-the-art setup is essential for navigating the educational landscape of the digital age, granting students access to global resources while connecting them with international experts and leading research initiatives.

The support from SlovakAid through this project underscores the agency’s commitment to advancing education and research in the Republic of Moldova. EMA brings the necessary expertise to modernize educational spaces to international standards. In partnership with the Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics, this project significantly contributes to the formation of a new educational framework tailored to the needs of students in technical fields.

In addition to modernizing the space, the project intersects with other innovative educational initiatives, such as the Cybersecurity Academy, a flagship program of the Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics. This program provides students with not only advanced knowledge in cybersecurity but also opportunities to develop soft skills such as communication, critical thinking, and leadership. The Cybersecurity Academy benefits from the support of CODWER, which offers specialized training courses and sessions. Within this program, students have access to advanced technical training as well as English language courses, which are crucial for their international careers. Upon completion of the program, the top graduates will have the chance to participate in international internships at CODWER’s development center, where they can apply their acquired knowledge and gain global experience in the field of cybersecurity.

“This new research and learning space is a crucial step toward supporting the development of our students’ technical and academic skills. We are excited about the opportunities this offers, enhancing their educational experience and preparing them for the challenges of the future,” stated Daniela Pojar, UTM Vice-Rector for International Relations and Finance.

By creating this research and learning space, the project will contribute to improving the academic environment at UTM. Students will have access to resources and learning opportunities tailored to market needs, increasing their competitiveness both nationally and internationally. The modernization of the Reading Room at UTM’s Scientific Library branch marks an important step in the evolution of the university’s educational and academic infrastructure. Through its partnership with SlovakAid and EMA, UTM demonstrates its commitment to preparing future specialists in information technology and telecommunications, providing students with a modern, well-equipped environment focused on academic and professional excellence.
