The Technical University of Moldova has taken a significant step in promoting academic excellence and innovation in computer science and mathematics, recently securing funding for an extensive project aimed at modernizing an auditorium dedicated to the renowned Romanian computer scientist and mathematician, Grigore Moisil.
The project, titled “CEIM: Educational and Innovative Center for Computer Science and Mathematical Modeling – Grigore Moisil,” was selected for funding under the non-repayable financing program in the Republic of Moldova by the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova (DRRM) for the year 2024. DRRM supports projects and initiatives to assist citizens of the Republic of Moldova, while aspiring to strengthen the relationship between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
Auditorium 3-609, within the Department of Computer Science and Systems Engineering at the UTM Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics, is set to undergo a comprehensive modernization and upgrade to meet the most stringent technological standards. The center will become a hub for learning and innovation in the fields of computer science and mathematics, while honoring the legacy of Grigore Moisil. Through this project, UTM seeks to ignite inspiration among young people, promote research, improve the quality of education, and form stronger connections with both the community and industry. Auditorium 609 will evolve into a space where students and faculty will come together to explore and develop solutions to the current challenges in the digital world.
Via this project and other similar initiatives, UTM aims to strengthen collaboration with universities and research institutions in the Republic of Moldova and Romania, modernize technical education, and facilitate the transfer of knowledge and best practices across generations engaged in research. In celebrating the refurbishment of the auditorium, Mr. Viorel Bostan, the Rector of UTM, shared a message with present and future students of UTM. “We encourage you to join our academic community and prepare to become leaders in the field of computer science and mathematics. At UTM, the future is in your hands, and we are here to support you throughout your academic and professional journey.”
The official renaming of Auditorium 3-609 in honor of Grigore Moisil will mark a meaningful milestone, designating this space as the main venue for teaching activities and scientific events in computer science and mathematical modeling at FCIM. With this initiative, UTM pays tribute to the remarkable contributions of a prominent figure in Romanian science, while also promoting academic excellence and innovation in the Republic of Moldova.
