The Technical University of Moldova is taking another step towards a Digital Future with the organization of an exceptional Cybersecurity BootCamp, in collaboration with CODWER company and the Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics (FCIM).
The event brought together students and industry leaders, including Assoc. Prof., PhD Dinu ȚURCANU, strategic director of the “CYBERCOR” National Institute of Cybersecurity Innovations and Vice-Rector for Digitalization at UTM, as well as strategic partner CODWER, represented by director Marius DUMITRAȘCU, and Mihai LUPAȘCU, director of the Cybersecurity Agency (ASC). Notable academics such as Assoc. Prof., PhD Dumitru CIORBĂ, Dean of FCIM, Arina ALEXEI, PhD in Information Security, and Olga JUMBEI from the Center of Excellence in Informatics and Information Technologies were also present. The attendees managed to motivate students through their own insights and experiences, marking an important milestone in the evolution of education and the preparation for the country’s digital future.
The Vice-Rector opened the event with a famous quote by Bruce Schneier, a “security guru,” who states that “Security is a process, not a product.” Mr. Țurcanu stressed the importance of constant vigilance and encouraged the participants to view the BootCamp as a foundation for learning, with the understanding that adaptation to new threats is essential. Mihail LUPAȘCU, the director of ASC, supported this message: “I am glad to see that UTM is organizing events dedicated to cybersecurity and I encourage young people to get actively involved in this field. We need talented and dedicated specialists to protect our digital systems and infrastructure. The BootCamp is an excellent way for students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career in cybersecurity.” The platform offers a series of progressively challenging exercises, designed to develop students’ technical skills and prepare them for competitions like “Capture The Flag” (CTF). These exercises cover various aspects of cybersecurity, from web application penetration to encryption methods, providing students with practical experience and a deeper understanding of cybersecurity challenges.
The success of the event would not have been possible without the support and assistance of partners. The BootCamp and the educational platform launched during the event represent a significant contribution to the creation of a strong cybersecurity community, addressing the critical need for cybersecurity specialists in today’s digital landscape. This event underscores UTM’s commitment to providing exceptional education and equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in the job market.
